Rome "airport hotel" and/or hotel or B&B for bookending our trip -- recs?
We are visiting the Amalfi coast region but will be flying into and out of Rome. We will be spending our first day and night in Rome to relax after the flight before heading down the next morning, and will be returning to Rome our last night.
Particularly for our last night (we plan to spend the day in Naples but sleep in Rome, as we have a 10am flight home the next morning) we were thinking it might be best to stay somewhere near the airport as we will likely check in around midnight and check out around 7:30am. Do "airport hotels" exist? Any you would recommend? We will probably just go to sleep as soon as we arrive at our hotel.
Also, any suggestions for the first night? We've spent 6 nights in Rome on a previous trip and did all of the big touristy things so we will likely use that day to relax, wander the city, perhaps revisit Piazza Navona and/or a museum we favored, and have a nice meal. We loved the hotel we stayed at last time but I think we should stay somewhere different this time around. Any recommendations for one night in Rome? We generally prefer B&Bs but are flexible.
(this will be early May, so perhaps peak season pricing?)

The Residenza Canali is a very nice, relatively inexpensive B&B (it has 10 rooms) just a few short blocks from Piazza Navona - perfectly located for the kind of first night you described.

The Albergo Cesari is also very well located and may be a little less expensive.
Can't help with airport hotels (I always stay in central Rome, even for early flights), but yes, there are plenty of them. The Hilton Garden Inn suggested by Bob above gets mentioned a lot on Fodor's.

At 10 AM flight is not "early" by FCO standards. I would guess you are heading back to the States if you have a 10 AM flight. With such a "late" departure time, I'd not waste my last night in Italy at an airport hotel because when you're out there (by FCO)... you're OUT THERE. You will find no restaurants, shops, etc. You'll probably be at the mercy of the hotel for food and entertainment. If you need more info on airport hotels, you might read this: http://tinyurl.com/FCO-early
If you have a US-flagged airline, you'll be leaving from T5 and need to be there about 2.5 to 3 hours in advance. Thus, you have MANY options on how to get to FCO from downtown Rome. You'd probably need to leave the center of town about 6:30 - 7:00 AM, depending on your travel mode. Heck, you can sleep in the plane! This article may give you more insight into getting back to FCO: http://tinyurl.com/go-fco
Again, spend your last night in town walking through beautiful central Rome... and not watching Italian TV in an airport hotel room!

There is a well-reviewed restaurant in the town of Fiumicino, very close to the airport, that also has rooms.
If it were my trip, I would look into staying there, having a fabulous final seafood dinner, and taking a quick cab ride to the airport next morning.

Thank you! Yes, the 10AM flight is back to the states... Alitalia. Is it worth staying somewhere more central if we plan to arrive in Rome close to midnight and leave for the airport at 6:30 or 7am? We have a day and night in Rome at the beginning of our trip and have been to Rome before.

Since you arriving so late, you'd be better off staying near the Roma Termini train station when you come into Rome... I don't think I'd be heading to an airport hotel after midnight - but that's my personal preference. I'd then just jump on a train (Leonardo Express) or take a taxi from Roma Termini the next morning.
