Rhodes or Samos

We want to take a day trip from Turkey to either Rhodes or Samos. Which would you do and why. Also is a day trip feasible or should we stay the night?

Rhodes and one long day is enough. The trip down to Lindos and its acropolis are 3 or 4 hours and a half day in old town and the Knights palace are enough if you only have one day. Remember it would be a long day. I found Samos to be nothing to write home about.

I agree with Toby. We went first to Samos for a couple of days after leaving Turkey. It was fun and interesting, and we did a lot of nice hiking, but there is really nothing very special about the island. We spent four nights on Rhodes and enjoyed it greatly. Spending one night in the old town would add to your enjoyment of the experience I think. We rented a jeep and drove all around the island which was great fun. But hitting Lindos and doing the old town in one day is quite possible.

Unless things changed, it's not possible to make a very long day in Rhodes: as I recall, hydrofoils back to Marmaris depart at 4:30pm With only 7 hours in Rhodes, I don't think one may visit the medieval town and Lindos. I'll go with Patrick: make the most out of it staying overnight.

I agree with the others. both Rhodes Town and Lindos are great places. I would highly recommend that you spend the night at Lindos. We went to Lindos on a day trip and returned the following year to stay there.
