Quick Stop in Dublin

We are two college students backpacking for a month throughout Europe over our Winter Break! The last part of our trip we are spending two weeks in the UK where we will always be staying with friends,( 7 days in England/London, 5 days in Scotland for New Years) except for our 3 day block we added in Ireland!

We have planned three days in Dublin, Ireland in the middle of January and we cannot decided on what to see or do!? We will be staying in a hostel in the city center and are considering the "freedom of Ireland bus pass"? If anyone has any tips for what to see on such a short trip, or transport in Ireland( airport to hostel, and wether we can walk everywhere or need the bus), or any just general help would be amazing!

Thanks and happy traveling!

A leap car is cheaper and lets you take the dart train north to Howth or south to Greystone if you want to see a little countryside/coastal attractions. It is good for 72 hours and you can use the bus, dart or luas tram to get all over. The other pass is good for the hoho bus but not sure how late it runs and the discounts are not that great. Jameson is not worth a tour. Just have a drink at the bar and move on to Gunniness, the gravity bar is worth the money and you might want to do it online.
I think you can walk most places but it is 14 rt for bus from airport so for 20 you can have the option of using all the public transportation. I like going over to Glasnevin cemetery and the gravediggers pub. Best pour in Dublin they claim. Trinity college, St Patrick's, the museums are free so take advantage. Collins Barracks was very good, more of a war museum. You will love all the pubs, grafton st, the parks and the history of the city. Great hostels and many times there are discounts for you through them.

Stay in Dublin; there's enough to see and do. You can drink what you save, using an Internet search to find new brewpubs apart from the Guinness/Diageo and Heineken properties that dominate the pub scene. The Guinness tour does not venture inside the brewery but instead occupies an "interpretive centre" in an old warehouse with a huge souvenir store. The rooftop observatory has wonderful views on a sunny day but it is an expensive glass of beer. Instead, for the same price, take the mini-course in how to pour Guinness in a bar mid-level. Jameson does an excellent tour at its real distillery in Cork; the Dublin operation is strictly for tourism. Otherwise a quick search for the local tourist authority will turn up plenty of city info, and the airport site explains your transport options, with an easy commute into the city core.

Each his own but I thought the Guinness tour was fun and love the free beer we gotwith price of admission. We always stop on the restaurant floor for seafood chowder and their brown bread with live music. I have done the pour which is fun.
Do the free museums. I can find enough to fill a week in Dublin but some people yearn to see a bit of country. The village of Howth fills that bill and gives you a cliff walk.
