Prague and Vienna
Hi all, I'm planning a 2nd wedding anniversary trip to Vienna and Prague and I would appreciate any suggestions about nice hotels (not very expensives), romantic, stylish and very well located so we can walk around the major interesting sites in both cities. ALso would like to know which are the options to go from one city to the other. Thanks in advance!

Check nethotels.com for both cities and www.avetravel.cz for Prague. One of my favorite hotels is in Vienna--Hotelpension Arenberg. It is within the ring, has about 24 rooms, 5 minutes from Stephensplatz, 2 minutes from U-Bahn & 3-5 from Air Terminal where the buses arrive from airport. It is part of the Best Western but has posh Vienna feel, 4-star and I had a balcony. It has a bathtub as well as shower & toilet in room and homemade muslei for breakfast. I paid about $50 in December 2000, with BW discounts. It is more expensive in high season.

For Vienna: I don't know what "not very expensive" means to you, but I do recommend staying within the Ring, which encloses the wonderful old town.

I like the Hotel Royal, or the Kaiserin Elizabeth, but don't know your price range. There are a LOT of romantic, stylish hotels in Vienna! Have fun!

betlem club in Prague was a nice little hotel - not fancy but the staff was nice and the rooms were clean. breakfast was included downstairs in the converted wine cellar. from the betlem club you were in walking distance of all of the 4 historic areas and a stones throw from the st.charles bridge. i love prague - one of the best kept secrets in travel.
I would suggest the "Romantik Hotels". I know there is one in Prague near the Prague Castle. I am actually staying there next week. I also know there is one in the Vienna area, but it is more suburban then the Prague location. All the Romantik hotels are very nice, intimate and romantic, hense the title. Most of them were private B&Bs that are now run by the Romantik organization. You can access the hotels from a central website: www.romantikhotels.com

A "nifty" hotel in Vienna is the Hotel Altstadt

www.Alstadt.at

It is just outside the ring, but located in an area comparable to NY's Soho. Take a look at their web site for exact pricing and packages--very reasonable for the "elegance" and quality (but remember that it really is a pension, kinda like a large bed and breakfast, so some "hotel' services are less available). The staff are very capable.

Probably hte best way between Prague and Vienna is train.

Also, if you want to get away from everything, enjoying a "spa" weekend at a substantial discount to one in the US, consider Karlovy Vary, about two hours outside of Prague.
