paying for electricity in rental flats
I have rented an apartment in Rome (Trastevere) for the month of February. I will be paying the electric bill when I leave. Have any of you done this in Italy? Is there a way to know as the time progresses how much you're using/spending so you can watch your budget?

Hi mass,
From what I have learned from reading other messages, they read the meter when you arrive and when you leave and charge you for the energy used.
I suggest that you ask the landlord to show you the meter reading when you arrive and the rate.
From then on: Turn off the light when you leave the room. Turn the heat down. Turn the AC up. Close the door. Close the windows. Put on a sweater if if it is to cool. Take off your sweater if it is too hot.
I sound like my father.

Every time I rent, the landlord checks the meter while I watch and confirms the number. I can monitor it during my stay if I need to, but I just get used to turning out lights, etc. like Ira wrote.
