Park and Ride outside Paris?
Hi, My family and I are holidaying in a gatehouse to a chateau about an hour and a half drive north of Paris. We wanted to know if there are any park and ride sites around Paris. We obviously don't want to drive into Paris and we are not sure about the trains, although we have tried to find out, none of the train sites seem to have prices on. We found one on the TGV site but it was about 300 euros just to get into Paris. I would be grateful to anyone who has information of how to get to Paris from Picardy at a reasonable cost.

I don't know about 'park and ride'... but I'm thinking you could park at a train station (I never noticed whether the slots were free or not), then take the RER into Paris.
A couple of possibilities:
Chantilly (RER-D1) or Pointoise (RER-C1)

Thanks for your replies. We have thought about the possibility of travelling to Survilliers and leaving the car there. We just were not sure about the feasibility of that cost etc. There are five of us me, my husband, sons 18.15 and 11 so that is why the cost seemed to escalate. There again we have not travelled on TGV before so not sure of the correct cost. Does anyone know of the tariff for RER as none of the websites we have looked at give the prices just the timetables.

Hi I have just been on the TGV site again and i did over estimate the fare it is 181 euros (my husband must have put first class in)to get to Paris and back from Roye.I am sure the RER must be cheaper if only i could find a site with prices on.

Go to http://www.transilien.com/FR/ and click <i>prix billets par trajet</i>, enter your origin (gare de départ) and destination (gare d'arrivée) and press <i>Rechercher</i>.
For Survilliers Fosses to Gare du Nord, you will see that the standard ticket is €4,70 - but if you're commuting throughout a calendar week, you'd probably benefit from using a <i>Carte Orange</i> commuter pass for Zones 1-5.
These cost €31,50 and also provide unlimited travel within the five zones. So you wouldn't pay anything extra to get around Paris (Versailles, Disneyland) on the bus, Métro, RER, tram, or SNCF train.
When you buy your <i>Carte Orange</i>, you need to present a 1" square ID photo. Homemade digital is okay.

I haven't been there, but since you can use it there and it is on the RER and in zone 5, I would think you'd have to be able to buy the pass there. If people lived there, they would want to be buying it.
