Paris train schedule to Versailles: specifically time of last return
Ok, I'm not fluent in reading the RER train timetables and what I have found doesn't seem up to date! We will be staying for the fireworks display at the Chateau Versailles in June. Can anyone tell me the time of the last train back to Paris that night? Or how to interpret the train schedule also.
Of course I know it's the RER C .
Any help is greatly appreciated before we purchase tickets for it and other events that day.

Here's the schedule from the Versailles Rive Gauche station that is much closer to the palace. Versailles Chantiers is quite a bit farther to walk.

None of the three Versailles stations that serve Paris is a big problem for walking distance for people who do not have mobility problems. I myself generally use Versailles-RD to Saint Lazare, because it gets me closer to where I want to be in Paris. Frankly, the station that I avoid the most is Versailles-RG because it is overcrowded with tourists who do not seem to know that they have other options.

If departing from Saint-Michel Notre Dame you'll be on RER C and that goes to both the Chantiers and Rive-Gauche stops with Rive Gauche being closer and only a few blocks from the château. Be careful boarding the RER C as the line splits in different directions after leaving Paris so be sure to check the end destination of your train before boarding.
I wouldn't get hung up on figuring out schedules. Just learn how to use the ratp.fr or transilien.com route planner.
Schedules for RER C departing/arriving Versailles Rive Gauche (closest station to the palace) for Monday through Friday valid from February 1st 2015 (last train at 23:55):

As mentioned in post 1, if you miss the last RER there are night buses and using the route planners you can get the schedules/itineraries.

Really Kero.. you just have to come off as so condescending ... many of us do in fact know there are two train stations in Versailles.. but choose to use the one that puts us closer to the palace .. because the main reason 99% of us lowly tourists go to Versailles is to see the Palace. The 20 minute walk is not welcomed if there is a 5 minute walk instead..since we also know we will then spend the next 2-8 hours walking around the grounds and palace..
Also,I SERIUOSLY doubt the Rive Gauche station will be "crowded with tourists" at 11 or so at night.. and really.. who cares if it was.. one simply gets on the train.. I have never had to miss a train because the one that arrives was too full..
Why not use your knowledge to be helpful instead of constantly putting down tourists.. which is what you are often trying to do.. sometimes obviously.. sometimes in a veiled way..
This is a TRAVEL forum ,, so yes.. we are all tourists here.. except you and a few other locals/expats.. but even of those most try to be helpful without coming off condescending.. ( thanks FrenchMystic Tours)

Justine, is it helpful to write 4 paragraphs to critcize someone who took the time to mention that there are other train stations (which, no, most first time tourists to Versailles do not know exist)? The person who is full of it might not be the one that you think. I find it scandalous that you insult the tourists who want to see the château as "lowly."

Is there some rule about which I not aware preventing people from giving supplementary information?
When you commented about the post by neckervd, maybe you should have pointed out that the RER C does not go from Versailles Chantiers to Montparnasse, which is what was stated.

How late does Versailles stay open in late April?
Do they do fireworks then or just in the summer?
Hmm, if you have to wait after sunset for the fireworks, it could be pretty late in the summer.
So do people visit the palace and gardens during the day and wait until after sunset for the fireworks? That's a long day.

The fireworks that accompany the Grandes Eaux Nocturnes are quite late. The vast majority of people would come specifically for that. The château closes at 18:30 during high season (and the gardens at 20:00) and the gardens are not reopened for the Grandes Eaux until 20:30 -- with the fireworks not until at least 22:30.

> We are planning our trip to the Chateau on June 20th and want to book the evening light show also. I am concerned about catching the train back to paris that night. Can you give me an estimate of the ending time of the show? Also, is there a separate entrance for the evening light show that we should use? We will be in Versailles all day and it seems the grounds may close for 30 minutes before the performance starts at 8:30pm. Is this correct? Thank you for any and all information you can help me in planning thing evening.
