Paris to Copenhagen/Stockholm

Hello,

We have booked an Oceania Cruise next summer to the Baltic. It is a ten day cruise beginning in Copenhagen and ending up in Stockholm.

We will be in Paris from May 15, 2011 and will travel from Paris to Copenhegan, stay in Copenhagen two nights and then 10 days on the Ship ending up in Stockholm where we will stay for 2 more nights before returning to Paris.

My question is, the best mode of transportation from Paris to Copenhagen then from Stockholm to Paris.

Easyjet looks pretty good and inexpensive, and the rail (SNCF) looked way too expensive. Our other option is to drive. We have a car in Paris and could drive to Copenhagen which would be fun, I've never driven that direction in Europe. It looks to be about a 12 to 13 hour drive and we could do it in two six hour days. We would then need to store the car somewhere while on the cruise and then pick it back up before returning to Paris. So we would need to find a long term parking facility in Copenhagen and arrange transportation back to Copenhagen from Stockholm. I guess that the airport might be at least one option or public parking somewhere in Copenhagen.

All in all, I think the Easyjet is probably going to be the easiest and probably the least expensive. I do enjoy driving in Europe.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts.

Thank-you in advance.

A couple of thoughts

You are going on a cruise and are you willing to stay within Easyjet's checked luggage restrictions and if not are you willing to pay extra for additional luggage weight (yes, I am assuming here but something to think about)

You say that the train option is expensive..is it MORE expensive than the cost of fuel, insurance, and either car "storage" or a possible drop charge in Copenhagen?

If you have the time and the budget I would definitely drive. You will get to see parts of Europe you otherwise would never see. Pick towns of interest along the way and enjoy the scenery!

Hello Dukey,

When I checked out train fares I came up with something like 1200 Euros, seems way too high. Maybe I need to check it out again.

Michelin Via route planning had the cost for fuel and tolls at around 125 Euros, EasyJet was, I believe, around 200 Euro per ticket.

I appreciate your thoughts. We do have quite a bit of time to decide, but I wanted to start looking at options.

Two years ago we did a 14 day Med Cruise from Barcelona to Istambul. We took the TGV form Paris to Marseille stayed with a friend in the south for a few days and then took the train from Marseille to Barcalona the flew back to Paris from Istambul through London. That worked pretty well and was pretty reasonable.

Eighteen months ago I flew my wife and her friend back from Rome to Paris, it was fairly inexpensive and conveinient. I just pick them up at Orly, so all in all it was a good experience with EasyJet.

Thanks again,

RJS

Hello,

I just checked again on the SNCF site and two tickets for two travelers over 60 are $768 and $658 for first and second class respectively.

I just put the date of Aug 13, 2010 because it will not search for dates over 60 days in the future.

Paris to Copenhagen on EasyJet, I used Sept. Dates 20/21/22 and the rates were 66.99/42.99/30.49 Euros respectively.

Sounds like no contest to me even if they charge extra for bagage, guess that we can travel lite.

Driving still sounds like it would be alot of fun as noted above by mnapoli, but with overnight rooms, meals etc. Easyjet is sounding pretty good.

Not only Easyjet flies Paris to Copenhagen, also SAS, Air France, Cimber and Norwegian serves the route. Easyjet isn't always the cheapest. That varies a lot. Last time I flew, Air France was cheapest.
