Paris sunset

Hi everyone. My wife and I are planning a trip to Paris in late May (27 - June 1). We've heard that the sun sets quite late at certain times of the year in Paris and were wondering if we would be able to experience this during our expected visit. Thanks!

Hi, Jeffrey-- I don't know how you could avoid those late sunsets, even if you wanted to. France is on Continental Time, one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, even though it's due South of Greenwich. It will also be on daylight savings time when you're there, so clock time will be almost two hours ahead of sun time. Plus, Paris is about as far North as the US-Canadian border, so it has long hours of daylight in May and June, anyway.
If you actually want to see those late sunsets, climb the steps of Montmartre to the basilica of Sacre Coeur. Great view of the city, too.

Hi Jeffrey -

The best place to view a sunset in Paris is on the Pont Alexander III bridge. The bridge is beautiful, ornate turn-of-the-century styling and you have a view of the top 1/2 of Eiffel Tower from there.

You can watch the sun set, watch the lights come on in the lamps on the bridge and on the Tower. It's incredible.

Have a great trip.

Dear Jeff, I would suggest getting dinner reservations at the Jules Verne Restaurant on the second level of the Eiffel Tower. Most dinners start around 8:00PM and last for several hours. When you call, be sure to ask for a window seat to view the sunset. The restaurant is a gourmet experience where the tours do not go. It was very elegant and a cherished memory. Deb

Debbie: I am interested in the Jules Verne restaurant, but have heard lots of concern in other postings here about the long lines for the Eiffel Tower. How long must you wait to get up there in the evening?

If it looks promising head for the
Pont Neuf bridge and looking down
river you have a spectaculat view
with the Eiffel Tower in the back-
ground.
Missed it twice but never again.

Have a great trip

To Debbie who posted above:

The Jules Vern Restaurant has it's own entrance and there is certainly no wait as it is by reservation only, with a doorman at the base to welcome you. As for lines at the Tower, it depends on the time of day. It's not that bad, I went and got right in one evening in May. First thing in the morning there was a line, but there are as many as 8 entrances. It's certainly less time than a ride at Disneyworld on a busy day and a much more worthwhile experience!
