Thanks to suggestions from posters on this board, we just came back from a great dinner at Le Timbre .

We still have two more nights in Paris and are wondering if there're any other hidden gems such as this one. We had a three course dinner and two glasses of wine each for €90. And it was really high-quality food, so well prepared!

I am not necessarily looking for other suggestions as low cost as this place, but we really do not want to spend more than €150 for dinner for two that includes one glass of wine each.

lI don't know if it'similat=r ti Le Timbre3 but we especialy'like Bistra de Gastronomes on Rue Cardinal Lemaine. Gets terrific reviews and we enjoyed the fodd the 3 times we ate there k=last trip/ Goole it and you'ss find the reviews!

Please keep them coming! Many of the above sound great! Alas some are closed sunday/monday and a few are really far from our hotel....I should have stated that we are staying in the 6th close to Montparnasse quite near the 14th (the Sainte Beuve, also recommended by a Fodorite!) At this point in our travels, DH is not super motivated for a cross city trip for dinner---a 10 minute cab is fine, walking distance even better!

What about le Florimond or L'Epi Dupin, which is closed Sunday but open Monday, and should be near your hotel.

My favorite is L'Ilot Vache on Ile St. Louis. We've been there many times. They have a 3 course meal for 36 Euros and the room is wonderfully decorated. Just a couple of weeks ago I had the avocado terrine, lamb chops, and floating island--all great. In our visits there I've had different starters & desserts, but I always have the lamb chops because they are outstanding. They do speak some English.

Here's a new find for us on our recent trip. By booking it through The Fork on the internet we recieved 40% off. Regardless of that, we would go here again. The room is teeny, tiny, decorated beautifully. The service is above par, and the food plus presentation was outstanding. They also speak some English.

Had a great dinner at Sorza, on Ile St Louis this past July. Great Mediterranean food and nice atmosphere. I had the risotto with scallops and my wife had the pasta carbonara, both very good.

I don't know anything about Le Timbre so I don't know what type of restaurant it is to recommend something similar. But that price range should cover most restaurants (up to 45 euro per person).

I think Chez Fernand is decent near where you are staying. It's on bd Montparnasse just a block east of bd Raspail.

Thank you again for all the wonderful suggestions!

The weather was so terrible here yesterday, intermittent quite heavy rain, therefore,along with the rest of the free world we spent the afternoon at the Louvre.

By the time we got back to our hotel we scouted the places in this neighborhood that were within a block or two.

La Rotonde, a place on Montparnasse, that is open on Sunday was recommended by our concierge. It turned out to be a really great restaurant. The wonderful thing about this neighborhood is that, while there are tourists everywhere in Paris always, around here it is just a sprinkling as opposed to an avalanche!

We were already done with dinner by the time we got your recommendation, TPAYT, because we definitely would've checked out that place. We will investigate and see if it is open on Monday.

We are also diligently following up I'm all of the recommendations made here, and when I get back I will rename this thread, so that it can be a resource for others coming to France and looking for midpriced dinners.

U second suggestion of Le Reminet. It has been a favorite of ours every trip for several years. I'll have to check out the Fork for specials though we've never needed a reservation!

Another good one quite close to you is La Domme(across the street from La Rotonde) that is if you like fish. A bit expensive but I had a fabulous dover sole there and it stays in my memory.

Avalon2---we made a reservation for Le Reminet because it was for a Sat. night and we were just getting into town. The Fork did not offer a discount on that night so we were quite surprised when it appeared on our bill.

We just got back from Le Parc aux Cerfs. What a wonderful place! I highly recommend it! Such great food and such gracious service! They give you an option of a cheese plate for dessert. I asked if we might share one of each, having the cheese and then the dessert. When she brought the cheese, there was so much that I was sure it was for 2 and so we would pay extra, but NO, that huge plate of cheese was a serving for 1 and we only paid for the 2 meals, no extra! Amazing! Total bill was €90!! What a bargain for such quality!

PS that €90 included a half liter of the cote du Rhone house red, which was just the right amount because it's more than half bottle but less than whole bottle which we can sometimes find hard to finish off between the two of us.

Oh, and do check out Le Parc aux Cerfs as well, if you are in that neighborhood!! Probably not a bad idea to check out the Trip Advisor reviews on Le Timbre....their way of seating in the tiny room is not to everyone's liking. We enjoyed it as do many, but it is virtually impossible not to interact w/your dining "partners" at the tables to your right and to your left, as the tables for 2 are virtually long tables for ~16, in that each deuce while separate, is butted up against the next in such a way that if the person seated on the banquette wants to get up for any reason, the server must come and physically move your table! We found it a great place for dinner on our first evening, as it made it feel like we were at a festive gathering, And believe me, I am not person who seeks out festive gatherings--esp with strangers, but this was great!!

It was never our intention to go to Paris on this trip---our destination was Florence, but we could only cash in our frequent flier miles on a round trip to London or Paris, but realized that we could fly into one and out of the other and it would still count as one RT. We are so glad to have "bookended" w/those 2 cities! We have been to both before, but we really enjoyed them in ways we did not anticipate. That is the truly great thing about travel for me---the unexpected.
