Paris RER A Gets New Double-Decker Trains
A whole fleet of sleek new double-decker RER trains have been put into service on Paris' hecticly busy RER line A that slices through the heart of Paris. The spanking new fleet will add, according to RATP - the Parisian metro system - increase capacity of this very busy line by 60%.
And the trains will have a low-level boarding system to make it barrier-free for physically challenged passengers.

It has had double decker trains for a long time (albeit not many). However, it is in dire need of nice new ones.
I was much more excited to ride metro line 5 these past couple of days to see that they are replacing the crappy old trains with the same new ones now in service on line 2.
In other good news, as line 1 becomes automated, line 4 is getting the previous trains from line 1 (after a bit of freshening up), and it sorely needed new trains as well.

A lot of details about the new MI-09 trains on RER A at this site! Can't wait to get to hop on one of these spiffy double-deckers! especially on portions not underground it will be neat sitting up so high - like on TGV Duplex trains Paris to Lyon.

I live on RER A and still haven't seen a single one of these new trains yet. They've had double decker trains for years on the A4 line (Disneyland) but hardly any on my A2 line. So far, from the few double decker RERs I have ridden on either line A or C, I have found the upper deck offered very poor visibility compared to the lower deck. Maybe it will be different with the new model.
