If it should be hot, and you'd be uncomfortable without it, then it's necessary, if you think it will be.
We visited Paris twice in June, and twice in May, and were glad to have air conditioning. Our first visit in June, there was a heat wave - high 90's for almost a week.

Honestly no one can answer that. I stayed in August last year , 9 days, and it was cool and rainy everyday, we didn't turn on the A/C once, which btw I insisted we have,,LOL .
My husband went in June 18-23 and had same weather, not hot at all.
I have also endured 100 degree heat for days on end. ..

The way I look at it is - if there is a chance the weather will be hot, and I am uncomfortable w/o AC, then my hotel needs to have AC. The climate can vary from one year to another, but I think it is warm-hot in the summer in Paris. We went in May and it was too warm (for my taste) and a couple of Septs the afternoons were too warm. I like 'sweater weather' for traveling, so we don't need AC.
