Paris & a BIG one
Going to be in Paris with my husband and 2 daughters , 11 and 18, for a mighty big birthday (UGH). Any ideas how we can celebrate on that special night apart from Jules Verne dinner or Seine cruise. Something fun , different , yummy, etc.

I celebrated in May what must have been a Bigger birthday than yours 
(UghUgh)at the gorgeous Train Bleu at the Gare de Lyon. The food is not innovative cutting edge, but is very good, IMO. It's a lovely old restaurant that evokes turn-of-the-century France. www.le-train-bleu.com

Got a big budget for this? Go for dinner (and overnight?) at Chateau d'Esclimont. About 55 minutes southest of Paris - - but less, I think, by private helicopter (yes, they have a heliport).

Personally, I think the food at Jules Verne is not that great, it is mostly all about the view.
You can have dinner in a nice place <b>and </b>take the Seine cruise..

Here's another HUGE recommendation for the Segway tour. The day tour stops for lunch. After the evening tour, there's one of the best "crepe guys" in Paris a few blocks away on a corner delightful for watching the passing parade, and right next metro/bus stops.
Another idea might be to spend the evening at Place du Tertre. Our favorite restaurant there (and it's not as "touristy" as you would be led to believe) is La Cremaillere 1900 where there is seating right on the square, inside in positively gorgeous vintage Art Nouveau rooms, or in the garden, a virtual oasis.

I'm going to Le Grand Cafe on my next big birthday (and the fact I'm going there makes having it somewhat more tolerable...you noticed I added a "somewhat"

We went to the restaurant at the Trocadero just outside the museum (Musee' de l'Homme, I think it is called) last summer. What an incredible view of the Eiffel Tower! The food was marvelous and the atmosphere great out on the terrace. We were mesmerized!! Happy Birthday...just thinking of the alternative of not having that birthday always gets me through them!!!

Or, get all dressed up and go for dinner, when the lights are low and it's more expensive.
This is a restaurant that will give you unforgettable memories and make you forget all about the BIG one.
The view from the Eiffel Tower at Jules Verne might be good, or you might not see anything but fog, smog...
I'd concentrate on sitting in one of the most beautiful restaurants in the world and enjoying the company and the food.
