Friends, is it not feasible to drive from Bayeux to Honfleur up the coast and back in a day
or would we be like "horses headed to the barn"? So to speak......
We definitely don't want to be horses.
As this is in April, I thought the coastal towns would be to cold to linger at cafe's and do beach strolls.
Knowing we were doing the D Day beaches, I thought that would be coast, beaches and villages enough. Perhaps not.
I wonder if the French coast is like Cinque Terra in the spring. Any hints or advice are always welcome.

Bayeux is farther north than any spot in the continental US. Would you go to Winnipeg BC Canada in April?? The Med is a lot warmer than the English Channel.

Honfleur is about 1 1/4 hrs away - so it could be a day-trip.

Yes, we have done it as a day trip.

But agree, we were able to sit and eat dinner outside in Summer.

Keep in mind that the many of the roads are one lane, but not one way. The rate of speed is going to be slower than your are probably used to going. Dress warm because you can almost be guarenteed that it will be windy and chilly.

First mistake, thinking it would be spring. Yikes! Well, at least it won't be stinking hot, which it can be in the south. Thanks Stu, but if I were invited to go to Winnipeg in April, I, personally, probably would.

Well, the weather can't be helped, and I had rather have chilly weather than hoards of crowds and heat, so we will make do. Thanks again everyone and Happy Holidays!

We did this trip in March of '12. We used Bayeux as a base to see the WWII sites. One day we drove to Honfleur, had lunch and returned to Bayeux. During that time period it was very nice and warm in France. People were eating outside in shirt sleeves around the harbor in Honfleur. Of course I think this was very unusual but fortunate for us. Even touring the WWII beaches was quite pleasant. So time-wise it is feasible. What the weather will be is anyone's guess.

There are other factors determining Honfleur's weather in addition to its latitude.

You may well be able to sit out in April, particularly with the space heaters and clear plastic enclosures more restaurants and cafes are using.

Do go, it's pretty and charming and you won't be seeing snow plows in April. If you do, we're all in trouble!

Same in Paris when it is below freezing. Beware of smokers in these plastic outdoor spaces.

Comparing Normandy to Winnipeg is misleading. One has a continental climate and the other an Atlantic climate. April might have all the lilacs in bloom.

Using the four lane highway, it takes about an hour between Honfleur and Bayeux.

We were in Honfleur in early May one year, and although it was not warm enough to dine outside, we still enjoyed the town.

Good grief don't go to Winnipeg BC..It doesn;'t exist!! Winnipeg is in Manitoba probably a couple of thousand miles east of BC. The WWII sites will be cold/cool,windy and damp. But they are well worth the effort. We were there in May and it was chilly as an Atlantic northerly coast would be. Layers were needed.

How are you getting to Bayeux in the first place? When we went to Normandy and Bayeux we rented our car at CDG and spent a night in Honfleur before continuing to Bayeux.
I don't quite understand the one lane road reference. Maybe the post meant two lane, which, yes, but traffic moves along.

The church on Honfleur's square is a little gem also.

We went the first week of May and it was very windy and chilly on some days and warm and sunny on others. You never know. It is a beautiful drive none the less. Traffic and driving were great.
