Harvey Robbins

Does anyone know or has experienced the flight from Detroit to Paris? I have never been on a DC10 or Northwest Airlines.

I flew from Detroit to Paris in May of this year. The cabin was extremely crowded back in coach, but hey, I was on my way to Paris so I didn't mind at all. Overall, it was fine, and I would fly out of Detroit again.

Harvey: we flew N.W. from Detroit to Rome in Sept and it was terrible. The plane was packed, the seats were small and uncomfortable, overhead lights would not turn off at night (we were told it was a short, just what I wanted to hear). One of the bathrooms did not work and the others were smallest I have ever been in, really small. <BR>Also the DC-10 is an old plane with a checkered history. We will never fly N.W. again. Would rather walk or swim. <BR>I am not a world traveller but, have been to Europe & Carib & coast to coast U.S. & know whereof I speak. <BR>Bob Cleary <BR>

Bonjour, <BR> <BR>My wife and I have flown N.W. out of Detroit 2 times this year and United out of Chicogo once. I hate the flight to Paris Period!!! Coach is too crowded and I can't afford Business Class. At any rate we really had now problems with the plane or the flight. My wife actually prefers the N.W. flight, I would favor the United flight from Chi. because they do fly the brand new Boeing 777, I feel is probably the best plane in the world. The NW flight lands later, arround 11:00 where as the United flight lands at De Gaulle at arround 8:00 if I remember correctly. <BR> <BR>Have a great time in France. <BR> <BR>Randall Smith <BR> <BR>

Have flown to Europe - London, Pars, and Frankfurt out of Detroit - 5 trips in total. The flights are almost always fully booked, seats are small and tight but no more so than other coach sections. Minimal delays - the longest one waiting to leave Paris - to clear debris from the runway - I was glad they waited. <BR> <BR>I will fly with them again.

We flew NW out of Detroit to Amsterdam last year. The flight was packed, uncomfortable and extremely stuffy - BUT we got the tickets (round-trip from New Orleans) for less than $400 and the pilot got us there in 6 hours. At that price, we decided we could handle anything for 6 hours.

We have flown Northwest to Europe and back 3 times. To London, Amsterdam and back from Paris. Going was always on DC 10s Compared to other US based airlines their coach seats seem about the same (except for KLM, which I will avoid). I did like that on the sides they have only 2 across. Therefore it was a little more private and a couple would not disturb others or be disturbed when needing to get up. Also lifted the arm which made it more like a small couch. Also they did not lose our luggage, flights were basically on time, pre-ordered special meals were fine, they did not weigh our carry on luggage. So compared with Delta, United, etc. I cannot complain. <BR> <BR>ALSO NOTE: Qantas which is suppose to have better seating was in the news on Good Morning America this past week. Seems a 28 year old woman, in good health, not overweight, flew 20 hours from Sydney to her home in London after the Olympics. She collasped on the way to get her luggage and died a couple days later from a blood clot. I think they called it ECONOMY SYNDROME. As a result, on flights more than 5 hours they recommend taking an aspirin, drinking lots of water, avoid caffeine, wear the elastic knee socks, walk a lap or 2 around the cabin every 2 to 4 hours. People who are carrying more weight around the middle are more suseptable to clots (I think they said). Anyway she was not the first case of this. My daughter said on one European flight they did "seat arobics", that would be good. <BR> United (which we will shortly fly to Australia) has already hasseled us bumping us from the 747 2nd cabin to the 3rd, even though our reservations were booked last January. <BR>On our flight last October home from Amsterdam, we lost 1/3 of the steward crew to another plane, they asked us to be patient. Everyone thought they would help by going to the galley directly for beverages. When they went to serve the snack 2 hours out of Detroit, they could not serve any licquor. The stewardess was amazed because she usually did the Pacific route and this was the first plane she had worked that ran out of boose 2 hours before landing. No one was obnoxious or unruly. Everyone was relaxed and entertained themselves. <BR>Just go prepared with reading materials, aspirin, pillows, water and be patient! It will be so much fun when you get there!!!!

Hi <BR>I guess if you are questioning DC10s and Northwest, what would be the alternative of choice? Are 747s better (do they have bigger seats)? Is there really any difference in coach among the airlines?

I have flown through Detroit ( on Northwest) multiple times for trips within the US and once to Puerto Rico - every time something goofy happens on the way back - either the flight is delayed /or cancelled/ or moved to an entirely different concourse. <BR> <BR>When I flew NW to England a couple of years ago I chose Minneapolis to fly out of- same price as Detroit for this trip. No problems. No worries. Nice clean, open, bright airport. Would choose Minn. over Detroit any day. <BR> <BR>Debbie
