Nice to Italy

Spending 5 days in Nice and taking day trips to Monte Carlo, Monaco and Vence. Want to travel someplace in Italy from there EASILY to spend 5 more days. Any suggestions as to where and how to get there without flying from Nice?

Also forgot to ask for recommendations for hotels in Nice - someplace reasonable, clean and near all of the action.

Look at Hotel Windsor in Nice, right on the Promenade des Anglais, across from the sea, very central location.

We took the train from Nice into Italy. That was very easy and scenic. You could go to Genoa, Milan, Florence or many places by train in two to 6 hours depending on which town you want to stay at. Check the train schedule in Nice.

Consider a couple nights in Genoa and then the remainder in Florence...
