Nice To Do/Stay?

Hi! My husband and I are on the verge of booking a trip to the French Riveria for late May/early June 2017. Neither of us has been before. Our plan thus far is to fly into Nice, spend 3 nights in St. Tropez (Hotel Sezz), 3 nights in Nice, and the final 3 nights in Monte Carlo, Monaco (Le Meridian Beach Plaza).

Regarding Nice, we don't know a ton about the area and are looking to learn more. What is there to do? What are the must-see sites, experiences, etc? Is it worth staying in Nice or should we look at hotels in St Jean Cap Ferrat too? We were thinking of going to Cannes for an afternoon (if that factors into the equation), and maybe Antibes too. Is Antibes worth our time, or are we better off spending the time exploring Nice?

As for other day trips, we intend to spend a day in Nimes (instead of going straight from St. Tropez to Nice, we will leave early and go to Nimes for the day, and then to Nice/St. Jean Cap Ferrat to check into our hotel that evening). Any insight into Nimes? Worth the drive?

All other suggestions are welcome. Thank you!!

I understand your dilemma. As always, the best way of answering some of your basic questions is by consulting a guidebook. How will you get around? What's your budget? Are you art lovers? beach goers? cafe sitters? Foodies? Divers? Sailors?

All of the places you mentioned are worth your time (except perhaps Monte Carlo . . .but that's me.) Researching destinations is part of the joy of travel.

You've picked a wonderful time to visit.

Same.
Monaco would be IMHO worth only one daytrip.

Instead of Monte Carlo, stay in St-Jean Cap Ferrat. Skip Cannes too.
Nice has so much to see and do. Promenade Anglais along tne sea front, Musee Chagall, Musee Matisse, Musee Massena, Old Town, Negresco Hotel, walk the various neighborhoods, Cours Salyea with it's flower and food markets, restaurants.
Easy bus and train connections up and down the coast such as Antibes, Cap Ferrat, Monaco( as a day trip-skip spending much time in Monte Carlo)
Sample Niçoise xuisine. It was part of Italy until 1860 and the arxhitecture reflects that.

Nimes is a LONG way from Nice and why? There are several other cities around it that most think are a lot nicer - why Nimes- if not relatives ditch it and the long long drive each way and spend the time on the Cote Azur.

Or fly into Nimes pick up car or train from there.

I rather like Nimes but many here do not think it is much when comments are given on what to see the in Avignon/Arles area are asked - some great Roman ruins and a Roman arena and a town is a unique cache but again you can find this other places like in Arles - again why Nimes, being so much a detour just for that one rather non-plussing city for most?

Aix-en-Provence would be an especially nice one much closer.

St-Tropez doesn't get that great reviews here either - unless you want a beach that used to attract the rich and famous.
