Need help re: Least expensive mode of Foreign Exchange/payment - USD to Local European$$

We will be on an Atlantic crossing cruise from USA to Europe and need advice regarding the best way method of foreign exchange/payment :
1. In the US, on the Ship, or in Europe?
2. With USD, Travelers checks or US creditcards?
3. At Airport, Banks or exchange agencies?

ATMs in Europe, after notifying your bank.

There are more threads on this subject on this site than any reasonable person could need.

1. In Europe
2. Neither. Traveler's checks are obsolete. Your credit card can be used for large purchases, but never for exchanging money!
3. At ATM machines, with a debit card.

I would imagine any exchange on ship would be a terrible exchange rate as cruise ships nickel and dime you for everything.

No one uses Travelers checks anymore and you would have to find somewhere to exchange them which might not be easy.

Use your ATM card (from a credit union if you have one) when you arrive in Europe.

I jumped up and clicked my heels when Traveler's Checks lost their popularity...what a royal pain! (it's surprising that cruise ships don't charge a fee for changing clothes!)

Pay attention to the three responses above...these are seasoned travelers and their advice is all you'll need.

Have a great time in Denmark...expensive, but interesting recent history. Here are some scanned pics to familiarize you with Copenhagen and surroundings. Great walking city.

With enought time, try to take the train to Hillerod and the Castle, and Humlbaek and the unique Louisiana Museum.

I was in Italy last summer and met a couple who had traveled with Traveler's Checks only. They could not find a bank to exchange them! I felt so sorry for them. The good thing was thir hotel was calling around trying to help them. Use your ATM.
