Naples to Paestum

As a result of suggestions on previous threads, DH and I added Paestum to our 6-day itinerary (2 nights in Naples, 4 nights in Sorrento) in that part of Italy.

It appeared that it would be a lot easier to get to Paestum from Naples than Sorrento, although we'd have to haul ourselves out in the morning in time to get an early train (well, 8:30 is early for us) or have a very abbreviated visit - after walking to the site and back to the station, a 1PM departure from Naples would leave about 3-6PM actually in the ruins and museum. Maybe 3 hrs. is enough, I don't know. Then we could do the archeological museum in Naples in the morning before we go to Paestum and save the next morning currently scheduled for the museum for something else. (But we'd be nervous taking the last train back; we're too old to spend the night sleeping in a field.)

Trying to find out whether two 3-day tutta la regione Campania Arte Cards for 5 days would be economical (6th day would be to Capri and I don't think anything is covered there) , I tried to find train fares with no luck. RailEurope site won't even give me a schedule and ItaliaRail comes up with schedules, but when I select any departure, after much time grinding and calculating, the site tells me it can't give me a price, "try another solution". Buses all seem to be from Salerno and taking the SITA bus to Salerno, then changing to the train sounds like a lot of time-consuming trouble. Searching travel forums, I come up with a lot of 3 to 6-yr-old posts that I don't much trust due to age.

Has anyone had more recent experiences getting from Naples to Paestum - and back the same day? Any idea about train fares? Also, the Arte Card site seems a big vague about the specifics of what transportation to Paestum is covered, so I can't actually be sure the train from Naples would be. We're leaving in 3 days (10 days till the Paestum trip) and I can't imagine why lItaliaRail can't come up with a fare so close to the time we're going. Is there another site I should be using?
