Nafplio to Hydra

Hi Everyone,

I am planning a trip to Greece and July and have plans to go from Athens to Nafplio to Hydra. The easiest way to get from Nafplio to Hydra seems to be from the port of Ermioni, which has daily boats in the summer to Hydra just 20 minutes. Ermioni is about one hour's drive from Nafplio. Problem is, aside from Pop's Rental Cars, Ermioni doesn't seem to have any car rental places to speak of, which means I will need to be returning the car I rent in Athens, in Nafplio.

That leaves me to consider what options are available for getting FROM Nafplio TO Ermioni. There are buses from Nafplio to Ermioni, though I might have to switch at Kranidi (still researching that one, if anyone knows!).

This leaves me to think about just getting a car hire, though I know it's bound to be quite a lot more expensive than the bus option. In addition, I would REALLY like to stop for a bit at Epidavros as it is right on the way. Does anyone know of car hires in Nafplio or have experience with taking a tax or hired car from Nafplio to Ermioni, with a stop over at Epidavros?

Additionally if anyone knows where I can find a ferry schedule from Ermioni to Hydra, that would be helpful as well, though I understand that in July, when I'll be going, there are daily ferries.

I remember seeing a sign on a travel agency in Napflion advertising tours to Hydra and Spetses. Perhaps by googling you could find this agency or another one to help you out or the local tourist board there. They could help you with drivers as well.

PEGASUS cruises has daily trips to Hydra and Spetses from Tolo, a beach resort that is pretty close to Nafplio. I think there's bus service from Nafplio to Tolo.

From Hydra, you can take the hydrofoil back to Athens. As I remember, it took about 1.5-2 hours.

When we visited the area, we hired a local driver to take us all over for day trips. Not the most inexpensive way to do it, but loved not having to deal with car hassles.

Good luck!

This would be your best option for ferry from the Argolis Peninsula to Hydra:

We did a day cruise from Tolo to Hydra/Spetses but I'm not sure if that would work for you. There is regular bus service between Nafplio & Tolo. You could ask to be dropped off at Hydra and not bother with returning to Tolo or just skip going back to the ferry. I don't think the ferry company would send out the police looking for you. They would just leave and you would be on your own. It would be a lot cheaper than renting a car from Nafplio to Ermioni.

Thanks, everyone. I emailed Pegasus Cruises to see if they have boats the day I need/daily this summer. Going straight from Nafplio to Hydra by water would be ideal.
