Month long term rental in France
We are 2 seniors looking to rent in 2 parts of France ( Burgundy/ Dordogne, Aquitaine.Limousin- flexible) for one month each. Need to be in/walking distance to village, close to market town and up to 50 km, from major town/city like Lyons, Dijon, Bordeaux. Can any one advise on websites that specialize in medium term rentals. Ideas welcome.April and May 2012

Sounds like a fabulous plan. Good on you for wanting to do this. I can't actually help with any sites exactly. But if you search for long term apartment/house rentals on the net I am sure you will get lots of hits. Have a look at the Slow Travel web site, they may be able to help. Spending a decent amount of time in each place is what they are about.
Good luck, I will be interested to see if you get some good responses cos I will be saving them for future reference!!

This is not one of the areas you suggested, but that time of year would be beautiful in the Pont du Gard area. We loved Uzes, although you might find it too small for a month. It is only about 25 miles from Avignon and 15 miles from Nimes, so very accessible. It has a lovely market and a handful of little restaurants. Nearby Ile sur La Sorge is nice as well for the markets and this area is less touristy than further towards the heart of Provence area. April weather is likely to be nice and not too hot and then it is a lovely drive from their to the Dordogne which would be better weather probably in May than April IMO.
If you want larger cities than that, Nimes itself isn't bad either.

Have you played around with Gites-de-France? We've stayed for a month in a place in Provence that meets your requirements. We've also stayed in the Dordogne & Burgundy - but not within walking distance of a village. The Gites-de-France web site is "under repair" now and parts of it do not work. In the mean time, their "old" verson is still available. When searching, you can specify how far you want to be from a specific town or village - ie "in town", 5K away, 10K away, etc.
Give it a try.

Well - it seem like the "old" version is no longer available. The only one available now is the new version - in Franch.

You have little choice but to go down holiday rental route for your stay. 1 month isn't long - in France for a medium-term rental the usual minimum is one year, sometimes three. Some properties give discount for a continuos rental over 2 weeks. If you can avoid the main tourist season of July and (esp) August, as you are doing, you should be able to find affordable rentals from Gites de France or other rental listings, such as Chez Nous. Just check the date for Easter, as demand and price increase somewhat.

You can also try the tourist offices in towns/cities that interest you. They keep lists of locals looking to rent places. Also De Particulier à Particulier website might yield some ideas. Also local newspapers like Le Sudouest - classified sections.

Hey all - it was pointed out to me on another thread that the website with my signature constitutes advertising, which is not allowed - I'm super sorry about that, but I can't delete it now! Just to clarify, I meant that I'd be happy to give you personal recommendations and help etc as a favor - not connected with the business.
