Menorca or Costa Brava

Ending a cruise in Barcelona end of June, and eventually going up into France. Trying to decide if I want to fly over to Minorca for 3-4 nights, or just head up towards the Costa Brava via train. We usually don't rent a car. This was a last minute trip for us. Traveling with my adult son. I am having difficulty finding lodging in Minorca with the exception of Mahon which sounds great, but just wondering how difficult it is to get around the island and to some beaches, historical sites, without a car. I am hearing that most of the beach area lodging are large resorts-package vacations-but also love the idea of a more natural setting of this island.
If anyone has ideas about specific villages in Minora that might fit -or best for a base, would be very appreciative Also best places on the Costa Brava for me to focus on would be helpful as well. Will have been with big crowds on the cruise, and in larger cities, so looking for a bit of a mellower pace to rest up. My son is fluent in Spanish.
We were in Mallorca 2 years ago, and stayed in Deia, and really enjoyed it.
Thank you for your help !
