Men and Shoes: This is Not an Oxymoron

I see there's a good Post on Women and Comfortable Shoes. How about something for the men? What are comfortable shoes for men to wear while tramping around Italy, and beyond?

My husband cannot be separated from his Rockports - the only shoe he has ever found that is comfortable AND looks good.

David,I vote for Sebago Lites. The only shoes I take are the shoes I wear. They look like a dressy loafer but have a rubber sole.Great for walking and formal enough for wear with a sports jacket for dinner.

I absolutely LOVE my Banana Republic Travelers shoes, BUT, they are a little heavy.
Other shoes that i love and recommend are Rockports, Clarks, and Eccos. They are extremely light and look great. I reccomend, you go to the mall and spend the day looking at shoes and trying them all on. of course, like everything else, you get what you pay for. look about paying anywhere from $70-$200. good luck.

My husband loves his Doc Martens, except they can be a little bit heavy. He brings a pair of canvas tennis shoes (tan, Tommy Hilfiger) for a break from his Docs.

I've just bought a pair of Mephistos and so far like them a lot, although they're kind of expensive. But I've been told that they can last up to 30 years if given the proper attention. I've consistently used Rockport and SAS. The latter, in particular, aren't particularly attractive for the most comfortable styles, but they do make some tassel loafers and penny loafers that I take along when the clod-hopper styles seem inappropriate.

We just returned from France and my husband got tremendous use out of his plain black athletic shoes.

In Italy I wore a pair of black Havana Joe oxfords just about everywhere. Sturdy , a little heavy but comfortable, and looked good with my black clothes. Also took along some Havana Joe fisherman sandals, and a pair of light low-cut Merrell hikers. Was in Italy in May. Never had sore feet. I'd probably skip the hikers next time.

Eccos and Clark's get my vote. I know they cost a little more but after all, you get what you pay for.

I took Rockports on my trip to France last year and liked them a lot. I've also gotten good wear out of a pair of Eccos. But this year I'm taking a pair of New Balance model 807's to Italy. They are brown leather, look okay, and feel really good. I think they'll be suitable both for street wear and for hiking some trails in Cinque Terre and in Tuscany. I also take a pair of Teva sandals.

Hi All:

In the era of "dress casual" ,I have discovered Rockports. These are the most comfortable shoes that I have ever worn. I walk all over NYC and find that the waterproof leather holds up very well, looks great with 'Dockors' and will be tested this May on the strasse's of Austria.

JOHN

Thought I posted this yesterday, but it seems to have disappeared. This summer for my 5 months in Europe my entire shoe wardrobe is three pairs of Eccos-
hiking boots (for the Alps and the Samarian Gorge among others), Ecco sandals (the Greek isles and Turkey), and a pair of Ecco Cross shoes in brown, great walking shoes and dressy enough even for the opera and theatre.
Last week I was wearing those shoes when I visited a foot doctor about my recurring problems with an 18 year old ankle break. He looked at my Eccos and told me they were the best shoes I could possibly wear.
