Marriage Vows in Italy or Greece but where?
Hello!
My fiancee and I would like to exchange our vows in Italy--or Greece. We have been to Italy several times and would be going for a civil ceremony. We have started our process here in the U.S. and now are down to the wire on locale.
We like the idea of the Amalfi Coast because it will be the end of September/beginning of October.
We have stayed in Praiano and a locanda there was lovely but our preferred room is taken. Any thoughts on a special spot in southern Italy that any of you hold dear and would recommend?
I would like to keep the cost to under $250-300 USD per night but my fiancee suggests we stay open to a higher price for this.Also it could be Bari or areas around there!
Mostly we want warm (ish) weather and great food. We found that in Amalfi there were lots of places (and the locanda) with great seafood.
As for Greece--we've never been there and do love new places and adventure. I don't know where to begin there. Santorini perhaps?
We are pretty quick to make a decision and will decide within the week so we can make our appointments with whichever consulate here in the U.S. that would be applicable.

It sounds like you have figured out the legalities in Italy and are working on them, so I'm not clear on your questions about Greece. Do you want to go there for a honeymoon or what? Because you can't just drop into countries and get married there quickly (except for some Caribbean countries that cater to that trade, or places like that). You can't in Greece. So if you are talking about a legal wedding in Greece but you are not a Greek resident, there are a lot of legalities and paperwork to be legally married in Greece (it varies somewhat by where you are, also). You need documents translated and some notices.

We know the steps for both and have just enough time to complete the required paperwork for either. Including our apostilles and the translation, consulate appointment here in the U.S. and the required appointments in whichever country. We also have taken into consideration the required time we need to spend after these appointments that we must stay in the country before we are married.
The question was not for honeymoon--it was for suggestions on locale, especially as we have never been to Greece!

Hi bilboburgler: Time is tight but we have spoken with the vice consulate and that office can do the translation of our documents in 2 business days and we can have an appt in 1 week with the consulate here in the U.S.
I read your wedding link--similar situation here! We have been together 20 years and there are positives and negatives on the tax standpoint to getting married. Positive now seems to outweigh the negative.
We normally just refer to one another as husband/wife to keep it simple when meeting others or arranging excursions. But now we will mean it.
I am going to look at the place in Puglia--we often like staying at agriturismos when we go to Italy.
My soon-to-be husband does also have family in Italy but not in the region we want to get married in, and we don't want it to turn into a 400 person party!

Wherever you choose, make sure you are guaranteed a quiet setting. We saw a wedding on Santorini and the pool bar noise, music and loud conversations, was so loud that other hotel guests tried to quiet the noise down to no avail.
