Lovely, lively, little Ludlow
I won't be going into great detail, but just wanted to give a thumbs up to Ludlow.
Thanks Julia T for the Ludlow recommendation!!!!!
We visited there for a week in October.
We stayed in a self catering which we called the "shire" cause it was so quaint.
We did wonderful day trips to Ironbridge, Powys castle, Barrington Hall, Stokesay castle among others.
It has good restaurants.
Ludlow's residents were so friendly and accommodating
We had a fabulous time.
I love/ loved Ludlow!

I've only been to Ludlow a couple of times - never stayed there. Have always meant to go back and stay in the area/Welsh Marches a few days. Would LOVE to stay at the Feathers!
Do you have a link to your cottage?

BYW, when we were talking with the very friendly locals, they were said they were lobbying UNESCO for Ludlow becoming a World Heritage site.
I can see the logic:
they have a nice castle
a gorgeous church
beautiful half timbered houses (like the Feathers)
quaint streets.
Yes, it could be WHS IMO.

It certainly does look very. Ice. Were the stairs a real problem?
We've been to Ludlow with our antiques dealer friends, and loved it. Very good restaurants, and lovely area. We were staying IN Powys Castle gardens, in a National Trust house! It was fabulous. NT has rentals in some awesome locations!

We parked out front.
They had metered prepaid parking from 9-6, free at night.
We were usually gone during the day sightseeing.
We talked to some business owners, and suggested that renters should be able to buy a parking permit for a week at a time.

Oooh taconic, that sounds fabulous...I adored Powys castle.
Their gardens were SUPERB!!!! I will look into that!
I have to say honestly, if one is not really mobile, the stairs could be a problem.
I just thought of them as excercise. ;-)

Yes, Judy, Powys is one of the great gardens of the world. We were thrilled to spend a week there, and also, in early morning, and after 5 PM we had all of the gardens to ourselves! It was magical. I can email some photos of the house if you are interested. I just haven't been able to figure out how to upload photos to this site!

I can't figure out how to put up my own photos. but here is the website for the house we rented:

It shows a few photos which will give an idea. I can say without question, it was one of our best ever holidays!
