Looking for the perfect hotel on the Amalfi Coast

In October, we will be going on our honeymoon to Italy for 2 weeks. We plan on going to Rome, Positano, Florence, and Venice. We're looking for a romantic hotel on the Amalfi Coast, looking in the 4 **** range. We'll only have 2 nights there. It sounds like Positano is the best prettiest place to stay. Any suggestions?
Also, has anyone heard of any of the following hotels? Luna Convento, Le Agavi, or Miramar?

Also, how feasible would Pompeii be from here? Should we try to see it either on the way in or on the way out (even if we'd have luggage with us?)

Hey Bob, My favorite name! Try the Hotel
Posiedon for a good 4 star, but I also
like the Casa Albertina as a nice 3 star
with a great view. Both have web sites.
I would do Pompeii enroute---too far from Positano for a day trip. Good luck
We stayed at the Miramare several years ago and would definitely NOT recommend it. On the plus side it had free parking and we had a beautiful terrace with a spectacular view. On the minus side no, and I do mean no, water in the shower ( a slight trickle down the tile. A bathroom so small my husband referred to it as the "side saddle toilet." No clean towels unless you specifically asked. And finally, an owner/receptionist who seemd to feel she was doing you a favor by letting you stay there.

Positano is beautiful and very romantic--great for a honeymoon. Friends have stayed at the San Pietro--very upper end, but they said it was spectacular.

Second the recommendation to see Pompeii on the way. We did it as a day trip from Praiano and didn't have enough time there. It's facinating. I'm sure they have a place to check luggage at the station, Pompeii Scavi.

There's been a lot of discussion about the Amalfi area, so if you do a search, you can pick up a lot of recent info. We stayed in the Cappucini Covento in Amalfi which we liked (see my old posts, also they have a web site). The Luna Convento was right down the road and a bit further out of town, but also looked nice. Email me if you want more info on the Cappucini.

Hi Bob, If price is not a consideration, you couldn't do better than the San Pietro in Positano (actually a little outside Positano). If you tell them it's your honeymoon, they can provide various wonderfully romantic rooms with beautiful views and unique fixtures. Some friends our ours even went so far to be married on the rooftop veranda overlooking the town of Positano and the Mediterranean. I don't know how you could beat San Pietro. (and yes, visit Pompeii on the way down, also Ercolaneum, if you're really interested in Roman things.)

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions! Poseidon, Cappucini Convento, and San Pietro all sound fantastic!

Well, I guess it's different strokes for different folks! -- we stayed at the Albergo Miramare a few years ago and _loved_ it. Our room had a fabulous bougainvila-covered terrace with a view across the sea (we often ate breakfast there). Beautiful bathroom, big tub, no water problems. The signora very helpful and "simpatica", helped us with train arrangements and bus schedules, etc. We used public transport, trains and buses, so we could enjoy the fabulous scenery. But if you have a no-holds-barred budget, one of the fancier places might suit you. If you don't have to be near the sea (October is definitely not summer), consider Ravello -- there are 2 lovely hotels there: the views and atmosphere are hard to beat (names escape me at the moment.)
Buon viaggio!
Another enthusiastic vote for San Pietro. I can't imagine a more beautiful setting or romantic place! We were there several years ago and were astounded by our surroundings. I've also heard many good things about another hotel called Le Sireneuse (sp?) which I believe is in the same area, however, I've never seen it. Whatever you decide, enjoy!
