Londra&Cargill Hotel (Rome) feedback?

I haven't stayed in either but their location info is misleading, like most hotels. These hotels are ~.7mi (1.1km) NNW of Termini (Metro stop), so not in the historic center as they claim. And the "very short distance to the Piazza di Spagna" is ~1mi(1.6km) both these distances are *direct* map distances so the walking distance will be longer. So a 15min walk to the Metro will take you directly to the Colosseum/Forum or to ~1km of St. Peters. Or just plan on ~$15US for taxis a day to and from the sites. HTH Regards, Walter

Walter, thank you for your reply. I am currently booked at the Artemide and am concerned about the area in which this hotel is located. It seems to me that one is the same as the other (Artemide vs Londra) and I should keep my Artemide reservations. Your opinion on staying in this area would be appreciated. Thanks, Frank

Frank, Your concern in the area
the Artemide is located I assume is from guidebooks??? Their seedy south side of Termini generalization? If this is the case the area they refer to is around the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II *far* from this hotel's location. I have stayed within 100M of the South side of Termini in 2,3,4* hotels with no problems or concerns of safety. And this hotel is .5mi(800m) West of Termini. I've walked thru this area many times, it's upscale and even the Rome Opera House and some type of government semi-palace is located behind this hotel. I always go to a place called EST!EST!!EST!!! which has the historical EST EST EST house wine. It's 50/50 locals and tourists, opens early 7pm?, mostly sells pizza, salads which are a meal themselves. Quite, quaint, relaxing, inexpensive, and the EST wine is drawn from the *big* barrels in the wall. Walk out of this hotel and turn left on Via Nazionale (SW towards the Forums), the 3rd street should be Via Genova, turn left and after 1.5 blocks the street dead ends into a *large* wall and EST! is that last building on the left (sign, can't miss it.
