Last minute trip to Paris for crazed mum
Y'all,
I'm having a petite life crisis (in the grande scheme of things) and almost seriously thinking of making a last minute pilgrimage to Paris (I'm familiar with the city) - the week after Christmas. Insane?
The apts. I've rented before are all booked, however, so I'm looking for other recommendations. Near the 3rd or 4th arr., studio or small hotel. Safe for ladies. And available that week.
Thanks for any help! Just thinking about it makes me smile!

if you want to go, go, but you must know hotel rates are at their highest during the Christmas/NY's holidays. Lots of people go to Paris for the holidays, apparently. Which means finding a vacancy will be tough, in general. If I were you, I'd go to one of those booking websites, like www.booking.com or www.kayak.com or expedia, etc.
I think you are being way too picky by insisting it be in the 3rd or 4th. There aren't very many hotels there to begin with, actually, those are not good places to look for a hotel.
booking.com lists about 3 hotels in each arr free during week after Christmas. The ones in the 3rd are nothing great. I've stayed in one of them in the 4th and it's okay (Villa Beaumarchais). They want over 200 euro a night, I didn't pay that, though, not sure it is worth it. But I don't know rates during that week, they are higher than normal, so I guess that's about right (I paid around 150-175 euro which was a huge discount off normal rates). It is a convenient location if you like that area and very quiet.
If I were you, I'd consider other locations for hotels.

Check the 5th and 6th. Yes, popular with tourists, but locations makes for an easy wander to see things and plenty of restaurants.
There is a thread here today aboutn someone who rented on Ile St Louis (4th)
Budget?
Have to be an apartment, or would hotel work? Part of my medicine for stress would be many restaurant meals, so kitchen would be cob-webbed

melissa,
Get with it!
I just went on hotels.com and had check in 12/26 and checkout 1/1, selected arrondissements 1 thru 6, and a top rate of $300 USD per night.
There were only 14 hotels available and 3/4 of them listed "one room left"!

but very often they have availability on their own websites, and are not necessarily more expensive than the hotel websites.
Still, it's worth getting on with it.

Have you checked vbro or homeaway.com. It looked like they had some nice places in the 4th. We've used both companies and are very pleased.
We've stayed at Hotel Jeanne d'Arc Marais but online it looks like they are booked but did not know your exact dates, so might want to give them a shout.

My daughter is going to Paris on December 27th, and needed a place to stay. I gave her some websites to search as all my favourite and bookmarked hotels (inc Jeanne d'Arc)and apartments were booked out that week.
Here they are, and good luck, you'll probably need it at such short notice!
www.laterooms.com
www.venere.com
www.easyjet.com (excellent filter/search facility here)
www.booking.com
www.galahotels.com
