Italy trip 16 nights
HELLO EVERYONE:
I've decided (with everyone's help) to go to Italy in this order:
1) Venice 2 nights
2) Lake Garda 2 nights
3) Florence three nights with two days trips
-Chianti
-Siena
4) Tuscany Two nights ???
5) Positano two nights with a day trip to capri
6) Ravello two nights
7) Rome three nights, four days.
This is ultimately seven hotel CHANGES in 16 days. I'm not sure if that's wise. Everyone has different tastes, I realize, but would anyone have any suggestions? Also, what should I do in Tuscany?
Thank you in advance,
Natalie

I'd suggest:
3 nights Venice
NO LAKE GARDA
2 nights Florence
3 nights in Tuscany ( either central or southern, which would put you closer to your next destination)
3 nights in Positano - with day trips to: Amalfi, Ravello
2 nights in Capri ( Capri is so much nicer after the hordes of day trippers have left!)
3 nights in Rome

3 nights in Rome

My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon in Italy. We are in our early 30's and active people. We stayed in 4 hotels in 4 cities over 11 nights. It worked out perfectly for us, but if we would have had to change hotels one more time (even assuming our trip was longer), we would not have been happy.
We were much happier in Rome where we were for 5 days and got a chance to settle into a home base. We did not like Venice as much, and some folks have suggested it was because we weren't there long enough (2 nights).
All those hotel changes and all that travel eats into your precious vacation time. It takes much longer than you might think. I would suggest skipping at least 2 places you mention, and at least one day trip.
And this way you give yourself a reason to go back to Italy - to see what you haven't seen before!

Personally, I think it sounds great. I've done trips similar to this and didn't find the changes that hard. If I were you I would leave out the Siena day trip and stay in Siena for your two Tuscany nights.
CAFTours does a good half day Chianti trip out of Florence. You get to do a wonderful winery tour and tasting. I really enjoyed it. www.caftours.com
I also really enjoyed Sirmione on Lake Garda. Take a boat trip to visit some of the other towns on the lake.

Hi Natc,
I answered another one of your posts. Glad to see your planning is coming along.
Only you can answer this for you and your fella... but I will say that this would be WAY too many hotel changes and cities for me personally, especially after the stress of a wedding.
With regards to your three nights in Florence and two day trips, I would hate for you to miss the splendor of Florence, it just sounds like so much running around.
Remember also to take into account the time it takes to travel in between all your stops. You don't want to be on trains or in a car your entire trip.
Again, only you know what is best for the two of you. Whatever you decide, make sure you take time to sit in a lovely piazza and just enjoy. Those were my FAVORITE moments in Italy.
From your previous posts, you have a nice budget to work with, I would rather see you embrace a few less cities and really bask in the wonder of it all.
There are people that love this type of travel, and you may indeed be one of them, only you will know!
Best wishes, T.
