Italy - Economy Car Rental

Has anyone used this company? They have by far the best pricing.
Thanks Rosie

If it is this company--http://www.economycarrentals.com/ --we've rented from them in Turkey, Sicily and Poland with no problems. But we've never had any damage to the rental car, so I cannot vouch for their service in this regard.

Just a follow up, I did book with this company, it referred me to Firefly, which at first rather bothered me, but it Looks like that is new branding for Hertz. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that all will be well!

PS,

Does the rate include the required CDW?

We rented from them in Greece, Croatia, and Sicily, no problems. CDW was included.

I tried Sixt, Budget, Avis, and letting orbitz look for me. Normally I go with Sixt, but even they were more expensive this time. I had the option of 2 packaged and all inclusive ( more insurance- I don't know all the terms) was still cheaper than sixt.
I think CDW was included.

rosie, we used them twice in Italy last year and are renting through them again this May. Our contract is and was with Budget out of Florence and this May out of Bologna but in Venice we were placed with Advantage. Depending on the country, I compare rates between Economy, Kemwel and Autoeurope. Italy rentals include the CDW but at the rental counter you still have the "opportunity" to add the excess coverage which we rarely do. We have never had a problem with any of our rentals through Economy. Deborah

Ira,

compared to Autoeurope where the CDW cannot be carried by the credit card and if the car is returned to the original location; that's what I experienced. But you could test that out by doing dummy rentals with both brokers.

I prefer other car rental price comparison site because they do not hide partners brand like Econmycarrentals. I usually booked through www.izzirent.com where i can see all brand listed and i can compare between tons of deals.

We are also thinking of using economy car rental (ECR) to hire a car in Turkey in October and travel along the Lycian coast. The rate quoted by ECR, inclduing Full Insurance, sounds really good. Nevertheless, we are in doubt and have some questions:

@ Dear Michael, was the rental car that you got in Turkey via ECR in good condition? From which rental company did you get your car? Did you have to purchase additional insurance for Turkey? Was the drop-off easy, without any problems with the rental company?

Thanks for your feedback!

The car was in good condition, ran well, but was not like a brand-new car. The radio kept on falling out because the bracket was broken. I understand that the actual rental company went out of business within the year. I purchased no additional insurance in Turkey. I called the rental company from our hotel in Kayseri and it offered to pick up the car at the hotel since they were delivering a car at the same hotel. You might want to take a look at my trip report; click on my name to find it.

I recently rented from them and had no problems at all. I don't think it's fair to say they are frauds. They are a consolidator and our car came from Thrifty. We saved a couple hundred dollars over renting through thrifty.com
The above poster has raised many very old posts simply to complain about this company.

no record of my booking was found at Firefly

I understand that the rental agency might have lost the booking, but did you have a copy of the rental agreement with you? If not, why not? If you did, how did the rental agency react to the evidence that you produced?

Josjg, it would have been more appropriate to start your own thread about your problem with Economy Car Rentals rather than tag the same identical post onto any number of threads about the company. (To start a thread, click on Start a new topic in orange at the upper lefthand side of the page.)

Economy Car Rentals is a broker; they don't themselves rent out cars, they subcontract to various rental car companies. It's not totally surprising that one such company would fall down on the job. Especially since Economy Car Rentals tends to deal with small, more obscure car rental agencies. Probably those companies can make more money renting directly rather than through a broker.

Whenever I make a reservation indirectly, whether through a broker or a website like travelocity or orbitz or booking.com or laterooms or even a flight connection with a partner airline, I always doublecheck the reservation with the actual provider. That is, I call the hotel and check they have the reservation. Usually for car rentals and flights you can find the providing company's reservation number on your documentation -- useful for purposes of confirmation.

So what does Economy Car Rentals say? Will they reimburse you for the extra cost of the last minute substitute rental? Can you dispute the charge on your credit card?
