Italian Travel Agency - booking Trenitalia tickets

I've tried so many times in the last week to buy tickets on the Trenitalia web site. I've called my credit card companies and they don't have a block on my cards. Still, I can't buy the tickets I need. The Amica fares will save us alot.

Does anyone have an Italian Travel Agency they use that may be able to book these tickets for me?

Thanks so much.

Hi I,

How soon after arrival in Italy will you be taking the train?

Amica fares are available until the day before travel.

PS,

Trenitalia's computer is very erratic.

You might want to just keep trying.

Have you tried between 08:00 and 12:00 and again 14:00-18:00 Italian time?

I'm sorry I can't help you with that; I do think the agencies are limited to selling tickets within Italy. In other words, you would need to be present to purchase the tickets.

Are you planning on needing the train tickets as soon as you land? Will they be for really busy routes? Otherwise, I would suggest getting them in Italy.

Hi Images, when are you going to Italy. I don't think you can buy tickets until 60 days before your train trip. But when I have looked at the trenitalia website I usually find it a pain in the neck.

If you can, follow Tuscan's advice. She is quite familar with Italy.

I have used Pantheon Travel for train tickets; the surcharge for having them book for you is minimal:

Thanks so much eskcrunchy! I'll give them a try. I know I can wait, but am afraid the Amica fares will be sold out. We need 3 tickets from Rome to Florence for March 28 and from Florence to Venice March 30. We arrive in Rome on March 26. I know it's not much time in these cities, but we're just seeing the highlights for our grandson's spring break trip.

I've tried 4 e-mail accounts with different CC and it won't allow us to access payment. Security reasons it's says, but our CC companies have lifted any blocks for Italy. A couple of years ago we easily purchased tickets on their site.

We've used the American Express Travel Services office near the Spanish Steps. I don't recall a service charge, but we were using an American Express card which might have made a difference.

I have a Citibank MasterCard. If I use the # printed on the card I cannot purchase tickets on trenitalia.com. Citibank has an identity theft protection feature where they assign a virtual card # (I login to my account online). The virtual card # is good for a limited time and I have had good luck using that on trenitalia. It protects your account since nobody ever has your real cc #.

If you are a Citibank customer, check that out. If not, see if your cc issuer has a similar feature.

Images: I actually still have the train tickets I booked with Pantheon Travel last winter.

There is, in fact, no service charge for booking with a them as they are an authorized TrenItalia agent.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm trying to call Pantheon Travel but they haven't answered their phones yet!

As far as using a virtual CC# on the Trenitalia web site, we tried once, but are blocked out of trying any CC since they've said because of security you can't access the payment part of their site. They're supposed to reinstate that in 24 hours, but they never have in the last week. I even called their phone # and are just asked to leave a message, which they don't respond to.

So, I'm still trying....

Hi,

I'm not trying to hi-jack your post, but when you book online it asks you for the car and seats you want, but no where do I see what my options are. Does anyone know where I can find that? I'd be traveling from Pisa to Rome on the ES.

Thanks for any info.

The car and seat options are for people who are trying to book a seat near someone else who has already purchased a ticket. No need to worry about this.

Hi Images2, We will be on the train from Florence to Venice on March 29...the 7:40 train. I was able to get Amira tickets through the website, but it took many, many tries. I think I was just lucky. I went through 4 email addresses as they kept blocking mine after a certain number of tries. I then tried to book overnight train tickets from Venice to Rome. Could never get through, was afraid the double berth cabins would sell out, so eventually bit the bullet and bought the tickets through the ItaliaRail site. Paid extra, but the peace of mind was worth it to me.

I'm so happy for you! How did it accept your payment if you were still blocked out? I've tried so, so many times, and e-mailed them numerous times to reinstate me, but they don't answer.

I might give up. We'll be in Paris first and I found their list of travel agencies in Paris, so I hope I can buy the right tickets there before we get to Rome.

eks: that is great information. Did Pantheon Travel take your cc over the phone? Then mail you the tickets?
