Ideas for 5-7 days in Toulouse and French Basque Areas

In late Sept., following a trip to Spain, we will fly from Sevilla to Toulouse. We have 5-7 days to tour the Toulouse and French Basque areas. How many days in Toulouse? Looking for other ideas for touring in southwest France by car. We have been to the Dordogne and Languedoc-Roussillon. We also like to spend multiple nights in one location and day-trip from there to reduce one-night stays when possible.
Thank-you.

>How many days in Toulouse?

Depends on your interests, but I'd say at least 2 full days for Toulouse plus a day for Albi.

French Basque areas, Pays Basque, is lovely. Villages of Sare, Ainhoa, Espelette, and sea side resort town of St-Jean de Luz should all be visited. Days needed? 3-4.

You might want to take a look at my trip report that starts in Bordeaux; click on my name to find it. BTW, for the Basque country, Bordeaux might be a more logical starting point than Toulouse.

Thanks for the helpful info. We chose starting in Toulouse since we can get an inexpensive nonstop fare from Sevilla and I've read in other posts that Toulouse is a beautiful city. We have already visited Albi; fantastic.
Michael I'll look up your trip report for other ideas.

Hi Vanman,

I visited Toulouse last summer and I really enjoyed it! There are many places that are worth visiting.
You absolutely have to go to Prairie des filtres for a piknik, or drink a coffee on the terrace of Place Wilson.
I also liked visiting churchs and cathedrals, especially St Etienne.

If you are interested in the history of Southern France, you should go see the boutique place St Etienne called Graine de pastel where they will tell you everything about pastel (woad in english), as it played a big role in the architecture of Toulouse.

I hope you will like Toulouse as much as I did, have a good trip!
