I need Paris hotel recommendations. I'm leaning toward 'Le Tourville'.

My fiancée and I are planning a trip to Paris in October, and we've been scouring the internet for a nice place to stay. Le Tourville in sector 7 on the west bank seems like the winner (so far). We're looking for a very quiet, bright, romantic, airy atmosphere in an upper 3-star or 4-star category hotel. We want a king-size bed which is proving illusive in most places we've researched so far. In terms of location, we want to be near the action, but not necessarily 'IN' it. A quiet sanctuary with subtle luxury and privacy is our goal. Both a bath and shower are necessities. My target price is under 1000 francs per night. Anyone who has stayed at Le Tourville would have an opinion that I would value. Is the upgraded room with the private terrace worth the extra 300 francs? Other seemingly outstanding hotels seem to be the Ferrandi, Regent's Garden and Le Saint-Gregoire. Input on any of those would be also appreciated, as well as other recommendations that you may have on the subject. Thanks in advance for your help!

We stayed at the Hotel Lutetia on the Boulevard Raspail this past June. They have king size beds. We enjoyed the hotel and the location. It is a very nice hotel and I believe it is less than 1,000 francs a night.

I would recommend the Caron de Beaumarchais in the Marais district. I cannot possibly say enough good things about it. We stayed there in March after seeing that Fodors highly recommended it. Don't know about the king size bed, however. The two rooms on the top floor have a balcony and table - very nice indeed. The service was fantastic and the location was tops. I've been to Paris many times and I must say that the Marais district is the most fun - and within walking distance to just about everything you would want to see. Have a great trip and feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions! R-

I am planning to stay at the Tourville in December, and think that for the price, it is the best hotel in the 7th district. But...if you really want something extra special, look into the Duc de Saint-Simon.

Hotel Le Tourville receives raves (and no negatives) on the AOL boards. One poster, who lives in Provence, has stayed there for years when weekending in Paris. She also says the suite with the private terrace is wonderful. Based upon the comments there, it's exactly what you're looking for. Overwhelmingly rated as a four star for three star prices, comfortable, attractive, well located. This is definitely a very quiet neighborhood with virtually no nightlife. However, there are dozens of fabulous, affordable, restaurants in the 7th, and you can always taxi "home" from another neighborhood.

If I may repeat Francesca's posting of a few months ago, here's a way to "take a look" at your hotel.

See your Paris hotel on the web
Author: francesca ([email protected])
Date: 5/17/1999, 11:45 am ET
Message:

We found recently discovered a great service, set up by France Telecom, which will show you your hotel, or anyother street address located within Paris city limits.

1. Go to:http://www.pageszoom.com/wrmm_rue_marchande.cgi
2. Click on English language (to see instructions and info in English)
3. Type in the address of your hotel (or any other place, for that matter)
4. You will see a detailed description of the street, house by house, and navigation buttons allowing you to "walk" up or down the street, and even turn the corner.
5. Find the listing of your hotel (or whatever) and click on the PHOTO icon.
6. Takes a few seconds to load but...there's a recent photo of your hotel!

I do not work for France Telecom. This is not an advertisement. But for those who ask "does anyone know this hotel", it's way to at least see what the place looks like...and see how far to the nearest cafe!

Enjoy.

Just got back from a 4 night stay at Le Tourville. It was wonderful - great location, excellent restaurants and neighborhood atmosphere. My wife and I did rent a terrace room which was nice to have, but I wouldn't spend the extra money unless you plan on being in your room for long periods of time. Also, we didn't have any trouble finding nightlife in the nearby cafes. Wish we were going back.

Just returned from Paris and stayed at Hotel de Tourville. Great location and accomodations for the price. Wonderful staff who love Americans. Owned by former waiter who now has 2 other hotels he purchased: Hotel Le Saint-Gregoire(3 star) and Hotel Le Lavoisier
all in the 7th district. Rue de Cler area was most appealing.
