I have six days in Spain - where should I go?
I have six days in Spain, I land in Madrid early AM. How should I spend those six days? Recommendations of places to go?
I've never been anywhere in Spain except for Barcelona so I am not planning in going back there. I will be traveling to Spain at the end of May/early June. I'm interested in sight seeing, eating great food and exploring beautiful places.

We are going to Spain for five nights in May. Arriving in the AM,
picking up a car and heading for Salamanca.
Stay three nights, after that one night in a Spanish B&B ( actually an 11th Century castle).
Generally we just chill out, explore the country side, find some castle ruins and enjoy the local vibe, some dine, wine, and romance.
Last night near Barajas, morning flight home to North America.

well, in 6 days you could take the fast train down to Seville, spend about 3 days there, then come back to Madrid and visit it plus a day trip if you wish. Seville shouldn't be too terribly hot at that time.

And book those AVE high-speed trains Madrid-Seville ASAP for nifty discounts much cheaper than full-fare but they tend to sell out weeks early sometimes - check www.renfe.com for fares and schedules. Also try www.seat61.com for advice on making bookings- for general info also check www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.
Be sure to hit Cordoba from Seville on way back perhaps -put bags in station left-luggage and see at least the great once-time mosque now Crhistian Cathedral.

Have you considered consulting a guidebook? Honestly, we can't possibly know what might interest you or how you prefer to travel or anything else of relevance to trip planning -- except, of course, to know that Spain easily merits months, not less than a week. So go to your local library or bookstore and look at some of the guidebooks. At this point, you might find some of the ones with high quality photographs most useful, including the National Geographic Traveller, Insight Guide, or Eyewitness Travel.

My daughter and I did a trip to southern Spain and I personally loved Ronda as a unique and "not city" day trip. There is a gorge, a bullring and the moorish "water mine" and garden. Following my daughter's interests, we mostly sought out different castillos and alcazars, so had little time in any one city. It was fun but next time I might want to stay in one place a bit longer.

Take a look at Málaga city by the Med, 2h 30 mins with the high speed AVE train from Madrid. 3000 year old Málaga is historic sights, the major museum city in the South of Spain, the best most traditional and cutting edge food, excellent theaters and nightlife. https://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/andalucia/malaga
