How to change college, after obtaining French visa?

Hi,
I am going to France next week and already have admissions in college at Toulouse [the basic reason for getting admission in that college was to pay tuition fees after arrival, although i have already paid the admission fees]. But the problem is that all my friends are in Paris, and i also want to live and study in Paris.
So is there a chance getting admission at a College in Paris and pursue my studies there.
Or i have to talk to the immigration authorities about this.

Thank you for helping me

My suggestion on this, from experience in Spain, which I hope will be similar to France.

Yu say you already have the visa.

You have no time to change any of this now so if you DO need to change the address and place of study once you are in France, go to the immigration officials and ask them how to solve the problem. You will most likely also need to show the new place of study and having paid for the course there.

People change schools and housing, but there is a process one must complete.

Situations change all the time. You have a visa, you are going to school -- those conditions have not changed. Any possible complication has nothing to do with entering the country but with registering with the authorities once you have a domicile. But since you are still a student, I do not see any problem at all.

If you have not paid for the school in Toulouse that yuor visa is based on - you are not a registered student.

Have you now paid for the school in Paris? If you have a student visa - but are not registered at any college, then the visa is not valid (and I don;t know what will happen if you are caught).

I would contact the embassy at once to sort this out - and have proof that you have registered and paid for the second college.

You usually are only granted a visa once you have proof of payment of registration at the least.

Problem one....can you get into the College in Paris? If not, end of discussion. So I would contact them and ask them if you can do this. If so, I bet they know how to do the paperwork

amir - do you know anything about Toulouse? big, beautiful city, loads of students, great climate...you will soon make friends.

don't dismiss it because all your mates are going to Paris.

why did you apply to toulouse in the first place if you didn't want to go there?

Hi,
Thank you for your replies.
Here are the answers of the questions you have asked.

I applied to 3 colleges in France, 2 in Paris and 1 in Toulouse.
And yes i have paid the the registration fees for all three colleges [approximately 370 USD]. and I still have to pay tuition fees on arrival.

I got Toulouse acceptance letter early so I applied for the visa with that letter. And today i also received the acceptance letter from Paris's college. So know i want to go to Paris instead of Toulouse.

And there is one other reason of preferring Paris over Toulouse. I am a part-time Internet Marketer and a 20hrs/week [25eu/hour] job is waiting for me in Paris [with the reference of my friend who is Product Manager in a Web development firm at Paris].

I would love to hear about the possibilities. I can't call and ask embassy by myself as my French is not that good.

Thank you once again.

Amir

You would talk to the embassy for YOUR country once you are in Paris. I expect they would be able to help you.

People in French embassys speak the language of the local country - not just French - or they would be useless. Call your LOCAL French embassy tomorrow and ask. Someone will be able to discuss with you in detail.

Does your visa allow you to work that job you mentioned?

Student visas allow part time employment.

My experience with student visas is that they are linked to the specific college, so you need to change it - which may mean a new visa - before you travel.

Even if the Paris college is stupid enough to admit you without the correct visa (which makes them liable for a massive fine and the possibility of not being allowed to take foreign students) you have the problem that as soon as you don't show up in Toulouse they have to inform the French authorities and you instantly become an illegal immigrant.

Hi alanRow,
I think you student visas experience isn't enough. Because you don't know that Acceptance letter from a college or university is a compulsion if you want to get Stundet Visa in Europe.
And it is regular practice of admitting students without visas.
And i have talked to the French Embassy, Some paper work would be required like submitting the proof of admission in new college and paid fees.

Well, Thank you all of you for your contribution.

good luck, Amir.

perhaps you'd like to come back here when you've got it all sorted and let us know how you got on?

we're always willing to learn from others' experiences.
