How to book train travel From Madrid to Ribes-Enllac to Barcelona to Madrid

Hey everyone!!

So my wonderful brother is taking me on a trip to Spain (I know isn't he so nice)! The catch is, I have to do all the planning and budgeting. I what to do figured out, but am having an awful time navigating the train site renfe. I can not seem to figure out:

Is their a train station at the Madrid airport, or need we need to get a bus or something to the closest one?

We are flying into Madrid then going straight to Vall de Nuria. Everything I read says to arrive at the Ribes-Enllac station then take the cremallera up to the valley. I can not find the Ribes-Enllac station anywhere on the renfe website.

So a better way of doing this might be

What is the best way to get from Madrid airport to Ribes-Enllac?

After Vall de Nuria, we will be heading to Barcelona....Due to a budget, I thought their might be a cheaper way than a train to make that trip.
What types of transportation would be best and budget friendly?

Lastley, I looked into how cheap plane tickets are verses train from Barcelona to Madrid.... How are the airports in Spain. Would it be a good idea to just jump on the plane and save the $30?

Thanks for all your help!! Hopeful to get some good feed back!

There is a bus from the airport that takes you to Atocha, the Madrid station.

I checked out the ridiculously difficult website but finally found out how to get to this place. Here is a link.

Of course you do not TAKE a train TO that mentioned Ribes enllac station. That is not even the name of the station any other train would ever ARRIVE at! No wonder you couldn't find it.

You need to get from Barcelona to Ribes de Freser.. (on the rodalia/cercanis-regional trains from Barcelona) train R3.

And from THERE you take the special train up to the village of vall de nuria from ribes enllac.

boy, they need some feedback about their website.Maybe you will be lucky and find one in English with a lot of info. I hope so. Good luck.

There are combination tickets it seems to include regional train plus the special train to val de nuria.

Barcelona is the correct/closest airport. You are probably 6-7 hours away by car from madrid I am afraid, if not more.

Why are going to Ribes-Enllac? Are you on a scavenger hunt?

Thanks Linca. I saw they had a train station but did not know to what it was connected. And RENFE being RENFE, any complication is possible.

That car-less mountain town , vall de nuria, is supposed to be cute. I have never gone. Hope the OP gives a report on if it's worth the trek. Different, bucolic, that's for sure. Wouldn't want to go on a weekend with all the kids,( no offense parents ) though. doesn't sound very big.
