Prices for next summer seem to be quite high right now. I am seeing fares for $1200 and am wondering if it is too soon to purchase tickets now. Do you remember how much you payed?

I paid around 1000 for JFK-CDG, FCO-JFK open jaw for mid June travel.
I'd wait. With the global recession and the decline in fuel prices, I think that we should see lower fares.
I just paid about $620 for JFK-MXP, LHR-JFK a week ago and I'm leaving today. I find this fare very reasonable and it was still available with just 7 days in advance.
Good luck!

Sorry -- I forgot to say when I bought the tickets for summer travel. I can't recall specifically. Usually I try to buy at least two weeks in advance, but normally not more than six weeks in advance. I'd say on average 2-4 weeks, but I've also bought tickets less than 2 weeks in advance a couple of times, including for this upcoming trip.

Last year I paid $1270 from Hartford/Springfield into Venice and home from Budapest. I booked the tickets early winter (early Feb I think). I just checked the same dates and route for this year and it's $200 more. But that could be cause for a couple of years Continental had nonstop flights to Amsterdam from Hartford (their only European nonstop) so I think that skewed prices. They stopped that route now. So If I put in Boston to Venice/Budapest I get $1287 - almost exactly what I paid last year. But checking some other destinations I think they still look a little high compared with the last couple of years - like $1100 to London from Boston. In the past few years I've gotten flights for just over $1000 but they were to less popular destinations. These were all for midweek July travel.
I'm going to wait at least a few months this year.

Approximately March 2006 I paid %650 for RT SFO-CDG.
Last April I paid $750 for the same trip last June.
I wouldn't buy tickets now for next summer - gas prices are going down & the economy is tanking, I'm expecting lower fares next year.

I got my airfare for May 31 with 50,000 FF miles in July. Shv-Muc return Nce-Shv. through Delta. My son decided yesterday that he wanted to go also. He will be departing DFW. I was lucky to find him the same arrival and departure cities as mine on Delta
flying all segments on KLM for 60,000 FF miles. His flight was priced (same flight numbers) for $2634.00

My wife and I paid $2360 for our two fares to Paris from Detroit on Northwest in September The tickets were purchased only seven days before departure as my previous purchase with Zoom Air out of Toronto fell through as the company went bankrupt.Fortunately, I paid for my ticket using Visa and the company reimbursed me this week

We bought our tickets in January and paid $650 for round-trip from Seattle to London on Northwest. We then paid about $200 for flights on BA from London to Paris. We went in mid-June and came back early July.

Dulles- Amsterdam bought last July
for April-May this year $850.00. Tix on sale early April for $567.00.
Vouchers issued for difference. We had to cancel a week before due to medical emergency.
Tix and vouchers used in June for next Aprils trip. $1122.80. These were on sale earlier this year for about $960.00 but didn't call for voucher diff. hoping the price would go lower. I'm still hoping.

For a September 2008 trip SFO/CDG, I paid $1390 (bought my ticket 2-1/2 months in advance for mid-week non-stop travel on Air France)
For a December 3-15, 2008 SFO/CDG, another Air France non-stop mid week travel, I paid $757 on October 30.
I think I will go back travelling off peak season which is also less crowded. Besides, I don't like those 747s the airlines use during the peak season. So uncomfortable for my old bones.............

Waiting might not help. In July of 2007, I paid around $650 for JFK-Venice, Rome-JFK. In July 2008, I paid almost double for JFK-Naples, Rome-JFK, over $1,100. For that 2008 flight, I checked the flights every day starting in early November of 2007. They never budged. I'm not exactly sure when I finally bought it, I think it was in March.
