Hotel in Stockholm

Hello
We are going to be in Stockholm for the night next Thursday (21 Feb) on way to the Ice Hotel. Has anyone got any recommendations for somewhere nice and not expensive (and with private bathroom) - as we shall be arriving mid afternoon from London and leaving first thing Friday morning for Kiruna. Is there a hotel near the airport or is it worth going to stay in the centre? By the way, just how cold is it over there now??
Many thanks

I dont have a hotel recommendation for Stockholm, but we did spend the day there on our way to the icehotel in early january. You should definitely head into the city and see the wasa museum and get a meal at one of their many modern restaurants. I would recommend berns(?) restaurant, as the food was incredible and the decor just beautiful. It was designed by Terrence Conran.

As for the temp, Stockholm was cold, but Kiruna was FREEZING! The icehotel can give you special winter jumpsuits while you are there, but bring a warm hat. You will have an amazing time!

Stockholm is great. As well as the Vasa Museum the City Hall is outstanding. I shall e-mail you a folder which has some possible places to stay.

Andrea: Hotel Gamala Stan is very well located for touring Stokholm in the old town section. It is well furnished, the rooms are reasonable size and the bathrooms are very nice. Good breakfast and friendly staff. About $120 per night in high-season; I suspect much less in off-season. I would definately stay in Gamla Stan, the old section, for convenient touring.

We will be in Stockholm during the last week of April and are lucky enough to have reservations at the Gamla Stan. Thanks for the restaurant suggestion. Question: how chilly will it be in late April? Parka weather or lined raincoat weather?
