HOTEL in ***SANTORINI***
In the end of September I will be in Santorini (Greece) for several days... I know some other islands but this time I decided for a more "hot" destination : Thera. If you have stayed in a nice, cozy and friendly hotel, can you please suggest it to me... Many thanks, Alexis

Alexis, We too will be on Santorini in late Sep
for 3 days. I have done alot of homework and there
are a dozen good places---budget will dictate.
We opted for Oia as our location---make that call
first---and picked the ESPERAS TRADITIONAL HOUSES
as our hotel---about $110/nite double.
Pick your location then go into the web for input.
The Hotel Aressana in Fira is another good choice
at about the same price. Tsekos Villas in Fira is
pricier but nice. Good luck---look for us--we will
the attractive couple that is smiling.

We stayed in Fira at Teskos Villas in July 1997 and it was excellent, if you don't mind a little hike (up hill) to the town center. It was about 2 blocks. Every room had their own private balcony and the views were absolutely spectacular. We appreciated the solitude away from the bustle of town. The price wasn't bad and the service was great. If you want to be closer to town the Atlantis Hotel is nice but more expensive. Don't miss Archipelagos Restaurant. They have a fantastic secret recipe spaghetti sauce. They are right on the Caldera and the views are wonderful but if you want a seat with a view get there between 7:30 and 8 pm. I wish I were going back.

Has anyone ever heard of the Hotel Finikia in Ia. My daughter booked it for mid July. She's touring Europe with her cousin (both students on budgets) and found the hotel in Frommer's. It's costing DRA 15,000 with breakfast, bath and pool. Any feedback or other lodging ideas would be appreciated. She's also going to Paros for 2 days. Originally planned to visit Mykonos, but got scared off by the Rape/Drink/ postings on this newsgroup.
Thanks,
Denise

Please don't let the rape/drug posting scare your daughter off. There is always the possibility of that happening anywhere she goes, not just Mykonos. Just be carefull when receiving a drink in a bar, watch the bartender and if she buys something in a bottle, make sure it is still sealed. From what I have been told, the gentleman who had the drug problem was 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'. He was also in a gay bar not known for tourists in a scarier part of town. If she wants to go to Mykonos don't let that stop her, it hasn't stopped me from going in July. Jennifer

Bravo Jennifer! I agree enterely with you! I've been to Mykonos and I had great fun all the time and everywhere. With turists and with locals. Just like everywhere, you have to take some precautions... It is really a pitty Denise your daughter is going to miss such a charming and amusing island like Mykonos... I hope she change ideas! Alexis and Jennifer,
Thank you for clearing up the misconception about Mykonos. I was beginning to think that if the RAPE/DRINK cases were common, someone else would comment. However, my daughter did change plans and is visiting Paros for 2 days instead. She will be in Santorini 4 days, Paros for 2 and Athens for 2. Is it worth stopping on their way back to Athens to see Mykonos if only for a short time. If they stay overnight, can you suggest a "safe" place that is reasonable to stay at.(the cost of the island was another concern)
Thanks,
Denise

I stayed in Athens once, unfortunately this city which was marvellous (in ancient times) has now too little to see... what a pitty! In Mikonos I recommend a nice, 2-minutes walking from the harbour, clean and not expensive hotel... (great and delicious breakfast in terrace). Send me an e-mail if you are interested I'll send you URL, name and contacts. Cheers! Alexis
