Barbara,

I also have a preference for staying in Gamla Stan.

In fact, we did stay at the Lady Hamilton for one night and then checked out and moved to the Hotel Gamla Stan, of course, in Gamla Stan.

We did not like the Lady Hamilton. We found the service less than friendly, the breakfast meager, and our room was so small (especially considering the price)that my husband almost chopped off my head in the closet door while exiting the bathroom. Complaints to the front desk brought no relief --so we changed hotels.

The Gamla Stan Hotel gave us the "honeymoon" suite on the top floor and it was more reasonable than the Lady Hamilton, and the room more than triple the size at a considerably smaller price. Their breakfast buffet was one of the best we've experienced anywhere in Europe.

Although the location does not give water views, the top floor has a small,flower-filled terrace with views over the steeples and rooftops of the old town. Very romantic.

I concur with the others. Choose Gamla Stan. I will be there in June and just this evening asked "reservations.worldres.com" to see if they could get the Reisen or the Rica Gamla Stan for us. I have stayed at the Lord Nelson, owned by the same company as the Lady Hamilton. The room was excruciatingly small by Stockholm standards. I have stayed several other places in Stockholm, including Norrmalm, but nothing has the charm of Gamla Stan. Congratulations on the wedding and honeymoon! Boots

You'll have a great time no matter where you stay, as long as its relatively near the Gamla Stan, and in one of the better hotels....but IMHO, one of the better hotels that's often overlooked is the First Reisen, across the water from National Museum and at the base of the Gamla Stan. We stayed there for 7 days last summer, and had a room with a balcony at the back of the hotel our first several days and then after returning to the hotel (from Copenhagen and Oslo) we had a room with a water view. Both had their advantages. The staff was very pleasant and the location couldn't have been better.....2 blocks from the castle, and a 1 1/2 minute walk from the center of the Gamla Stan without having to be in the center of the old town......Have Fun....Stockholm is a GREAT city!!1

Barbara: You don't say how long you will be in Stockholm and that would have a bearing on whether or not the card would be worthwhile. Three or more days and it will certainly be worthwhile. By the way, the Hotel Rica Gamla Stan is very nice; good location (in old town), very nicely decorated, good size rooms and very friendly staff.
