Hotel in Nice: Le Palais de la Mediterranee

Can anyone comment on this hotel? It's been recommended, and you all are the experts so I'd love to hear your comments. Also, if we are based in Nice for about 8 days, what villages do you recommend we put on our "must see" list? We will have a rental car. Thanks so much! We want to see Roman ruins, quaint villages, and be in a town for market day. Oh, we plan to go in April. Thanks again!

I've been to Eze, Gourdon and St Paul de Vence....all worth a visit....better in the morning before the crowds arrive.

Didn't get to see it at the time but apparently the cactus garden at Eze offers spectacular views over Villefranche to Nice.....will be in Nice for a week in April so will go back to check out the view!

the Villa Kyrelos in Beaulieu, a pleasant not touristy town east of Nice

the Villa Ephrussi gardens in St Jean Cap Ferrat (two good walks arond the cap too)

Hanbury Botanical Gardens, Serre de la Madonne, other gardens near Menton

The Saturday market in San Remo is huge.

The gardens in Eze have the best views I have seen on this coast. The little Fragonard shop near the carpark is unexpectedly good, didn't get to the museum.

Have you been in the Nice area in April before? Just wondering what to expect, weather wise. I've read all the guide books... Looking for personal experiences.

Le Palais has a great location, looks nice, but I've only been there for lunch, don't know what the rooms are like.
April is unpredictable; could be pleasant during the day, usually warm enough for eating outside at lunchtime, but not in the evening.
