Honeymoon in the Alps (with skiing)
Looking to honeymoon in Val d'Isere, France and Zermatt, Switzerland (also open to other places in Switzerland). Duration of about 2 weeks in total. Any recommendations for places to stay, ski tips and packages, best time of year (late December would probably be best for us) and best way to travel would be greatly appreciated.

While in Switzerland, the best way to travel is, IMO, by public transportation. The sbb site shows train and bus options:

In high season many of the hotels in resorts require that you book for at least a week and typically prices in Switz are very high.
I would look at prices and stay requirements now to get an idea of budget and how restrictive stay requirements are - so you can feed that into your planning at this point.
Agree that to many train may be the only viable option (cars are not allowe at all in some villages).

Hi EBrom,
The best way to cut prices in Switzerland is to get a package deal with a hotel -- you can find something like 7 night's lodging, breakfast & dinner, and 6 days ski rental and 6 days pass for a set price (like around 1300 or 1500 per person). It will always be cheaper than what you can put together separately. I took a package like that when I skied Zermatt for a week.

Since Zermatt is car-free, your best bet is to take the trains. You can find the schedules and fares at the Swiss rail website:

Don't forget Austria, like Switzerland but with lower prices. Also look at Italy, some of their little villages up by the border are wonderful, VAT free and very well maintained.
I'd get out further into January or February but avoiding school breaks (and the 14th). Missing December just saves the place being buried in holidaying lawyers and bankers. Nothing avoids Russians except staying in the lower cost places.
Do use a package, unless you can borrow a chalet. prefereably with two valleys or slopes for access (just savers those days where one slope has been made useless by the weather.
Travel, give over the details to others, so trains or coaches. Not cars, you may be a good driver but the others may not be.
If you want more peace look at Norway, Sweden or Finland. Norway prices are mad but the others are good. "Are" is nice and Sweden lets you look at pre-Christmas December.
