Holland Bike/Barge Trip in April

We are considering a family trip to Amsterdam the first week of April, to include a 5 day bike/barge tulip tour. We'll be traveling with kids, 12 years old. Will it will be too cold at that time of year for biking and boating to be enjoyable, in particular for kids?

There is no way of knowing what the temperature will be but generally the first week of April is too early for most tulips unless we get a very early spring.

Three years ago I was in Amsterdam at the end of April and it was very windy (unusual 40-60 mph) and cold. Could be that way or could be warmer but bicycling in the cold and wind is not going to be comfortable for anyone, regardless of age IMHO.

did group bike trips thru that area of Holland for years and in mid-May the weather was often wet and windy - but it could be nice, rarely but could be.

You'll get warm from the biking. And you won't be biking the entire day. Wind and rain are another matter though, and knowing Dutch weather, the start of April is early and the turning point from winter to spring often brings stormy weather.

In general bike IME of years of leading bike trips thru Holland, from west to east as winds often blow that way I think.

Those bike/barge operators take that into account. I meet lots of groups where I bike, near Rotterdam, because most dock in Rotterdam, then it's an easy ride with a tailwind to Kinderdijk and they're picked up in Alblasserdam or Dordrecht, so it's all easy cycling.

I met one group in Alblasserdam that had to be back in Rotterdam against they wind, and they took the fast ferry to get back.
