Help with Sunday Lunch between FCO and Peschici

We will be picking up a rental car at FCO after five days in Rome at the end of September. Our next destination is Puglia and Baslicata. We leave Rome on Sunday heading to Peschici. I know things close until late afternoon in this area and Sunday lunch is the large meal of the day. I thought we could stop along the way for an interesting lunch off the autostrada.

Do you have suggestions on a location along the way? We are planning on going to Pescara and heading south to the Gargano. I don't have a good feel for the time required for this route and would like any feedback you have. We obviously don't want to arrive too late.

We could take picnic supplies from Rome and stop for a picnic, then have dinner in Peschici. Since it will be a little off season, I was not sure what would be open in Peschici Sunday evening. Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!

It might be best if you give a time of arrival in Rome.

Here are two very well regarded restaurants that seems to be close to, or along, the route; I have not been so cannot give personal impressions.

Because Sunday lunch is a great family event inItaly, I would advise you to reserve when you find a place you like.

Ekscrunchy: Thanks for those suggestions. Their menus look wonderful. I will research them a little more and may come back with a few more questions. Seems like I always have a few more questions! You asked about when we would be leaving Rome. Since we are checking out of a hotel in the Centro Storico and taking public transportation to the airport, I am guessing we would be leaving FCO with our rental car around 11:00am.

Ackislander: Thanks for the suggestion on reservations. We will definitely do that.

Rome to La Bandiera is about 2.5 hours, accordingn to the map.

Rome FCO to Carsoli looks to be about 1.25 hours.

Let us know what you decide!!
