help with 2 week Croatia itinerary?

Hi,

We are a family of three planning a 2 week trip to Croatia for June.

We are thinking we would fly into Zagreb, and then drive to Istria the next day (thinking we'd spend 3 nights in Rovinj). Then we'd drive to Plitvice and spend a night there. From Plitvice we would drive to Split, drop off the rental car and spend a couple nights in Split.

From Split we were thinking we would ferry to Hvar, and spend a few days in the islands, (right now thinking 2 nights in Hvar and one in Korcula, depending on the ferry schedule) and then spend 3 nights in Dubrovnik at the end.

It's a fair amount of moving around but there is a lot we'd like to see. Anyone have any suggestions or advice-- if we should shift nights, specific places to stay,or rental car/ferry advice?

thanks!

That plan should work reasonably well. While in Split, consider spending a little time in nearby Trogir, which is easily reached by bus and which has some truly amazing stonework. If the timing works out, try to see the moresca while in Korcula. It's a beautiful part of the world - enjoy!

We did exactly this in May 2012. Roadtrip.
Our itinerary looked as follows:
ZAGREB
SAVOY HOTEL, OPATJE- The Riviera of Croatia. Wonderful hotel in centre
MARMONT HOTEL, SPLIT - Very convenient chic accommodation in centre. Rented a speedboat with skipper and visited various islands including Hvar, our favourite, where we had lunch. If you can stay over, that would be perfect. Some amazing restaurants.
DUBROVNIK HOUSE, DUBROVNIK - this was nice. Selfcatering old apartment in old city. Beware, 80 steps to climb up to apartment along narrow alley. You HAVE to go to Dubrovnik.
FLY BACK FROM DUBROVNIK AIRPORT.

Beautiful country with lovely people, fully conversant in English, modern road system. Parking in Split and Dubrovnik is complicated, but Rick Steves Croatia was extremely helpful. Available as ebook on Kindle.

Looks good -- we liked Rovinj very much. I second the suggestion to see Trogir. I would say 1-2 days is plenty is Split. Dubrovnik is incredible -- be sure to allow plenty of time to walk the walls.
