Help in planning days in Alsace in Oct.

I'm planning on picking up car at CDG and driving to Alsace area on Oct. 21st. I've found a hotel in Obernai - Le Parc Hotel and spa. Would this be a good base to explore area for 3 full days? I'm going to return car to Strasbourg and take TGV to Paris on Oct. 25th. Do you think I should stay in Strasborg on the 24th or just drive there on the 25th, drop off the car at the rail station and take train to Paris. We would like to visit Strasbourg.
thank you and if anyone has stayed at the Le Parc - did you like it?

We've stayed at the Parc twice and liked it very much. We also enjoyed Obernai. It's not totally central to the Alsace area but nothing there is terribly distant from it so it makes a fairly good base. it's especially nice to return to each day and relax. Viamichelin shows Strasbourg to only be 30 minutes from Obernai so I'd just continue to stay in Obernai the whole time and drop off the car as you leave on the 25th. Check to see cost and time differences. It might make sense to take train in both directions and pick up and drop off your car in Strasbourg. Costs of car rental from an airport is frequently more expensive than a train station and there could be more costs involved in picking it up one place and returning in another which would balance off the cost of a second train trip--especially if you can book the train on cheaper PREMS tickets.

Alsace is a delightful area and it should be beautiful in late October. Enjoy.

We were in Alsace last Oct., and the weather was lovely-- cool but sunny. I agree about taking the train from CDG and renting the car in Strasbourg. And now would be the time to buy PREM tickets for Oct.

We got 22 euros Prems Paris-Strasbourg for Sept...can't beat that and we really enjoyed Strasbourg for an overnight visit as it has a different feel by night after the tour groups leave.

We, too, really enjoyed Obernai. You'll have a wonderful time I'm sure.

dac,

Dont know if you already booked your flight but when we travel to Alsace we fly into and drive from Frankfurt to Alsace, a difference of a two hour drive. You can be in Obernai in two and a half hours from Frankfurt as opposed to almost five hours from Paris. That being said we were in Alsace in May (stayed in Andlau which is close to Obernai). It is a great location to explore the area. Strasbourg was an hour drive while Colmar was around 40 minutes. It's a beautiful area with numerous quaint villages, vineyards, and castles all throughout. Enjoy.

Obernai is a wonderful town. We stayed on the square at Hotel La Dilegence. Very close to Strasbourg. I would echo the Frankfurt comment as we did the same. Flew into Frankfurt - went to Alsace and then to Paris - flew home from Paris. Don't miss Mount St Odile. Fantastic views.

More wonderful memories of Obernai. We were very underwhelmed by Colmar.
