Guide books for Eastern Europe

We are going to Vienna, Budapest and Prague. I generally choose to buy the appropriate Fodor's guide to help us plan and sightsee. Was able to get Vienna and Prague but apparently there is no book for Budapest (or Hungary in general) or for Eastern Europe, except for ones from 8 or 9 years ago?

Can't find a guidebook for Budapest that I am happy with. Any suggestions??
Thanks

While we don't have an up-to-date print guidebook on Budapest in our Gold Guides series, we have some other options. Our Budapest content on Fodors.com was updated very recently (last fall) by a resident, and that content is currently available online.

We also have a title in our 25 Best series on Budapest.

There's also up to date coverage of Budapest in our print-guide Essential Europe, but it's a short chapter. Definitely look at it to make sure it meets your needs before buying the book. However, that particular book covers Prague and Vienna as well.

Besides for Fodors, I usually like Lonely Planet and Rough Guides. I like Frommers too, actually. The only main publisher I hate are those DK Eyewitness things, and National Geographic ones have good photos but I don't find them as useful, either.

I like the Rick Steves guides. I used one of his books for Budapest, but that was almost twelve years ago. Someone here recently commented that he thought the Rick Steves guide for Budapest was great, after using it on a recent trip.

Thanks everyone

I bought the Rick Steves for Eastern Europe and need to look at it carefully. I need to see if he has one only for Budapest.

doug_stallings Thanks I did see the
Essential 25 and while those small guides are good (and I use them) for carrying around in the city I like a more comprehensive guide for planning. I will certainly make use of the online resources, but still like an actual book!

Christina I agree about the DK Eyewitness books--and they are heavy.

I'm a fan of the Rough Guides for the area.

I always use Lonely Planet which in Australia is always the miost popular and most displayed in book stores .
I have Western Balkans - lonely Planet 2009 which we used for trip to Budapest, Zagreb, Sarajevo , Mostar and Dubrovnik . Also used Rough guide to Slovenia , Lonely Planet Austria and DK top 10 Budapest .
