Greek Island Ferries in November
Going on a week-long trip to Greece in November. We plan to spend a few days in Athens but would like to perhaps visit an island for several days. I've surfed all of the Greek ferry schedule websites I can to try to find a ferry from Piraeus to anywhere in the Greek isles and am having NO luck.
3-Part Question:
a) Are these websites as bad as they appear?
b) Do the ferries simply disappear in late fall (perhaps taken away by the ferry fairy)?
c) Am I just a bad researcher?
I am an experienced traveler but can't seem to decode this one. I will grant bonus points for anyone giving me a good time on what to do with 4 free days in Greece.
Thanks.

The two primarily used ferry websites are http://www.gtp.gr and http://www.openseas.gr/OPENSEAS/index_en.vm
If you're not seeing schedules for November it may be because they haven't been released yet. That, or the ferry you want is not offered then. This map of the ferry routes isn't 100% current but it will give you a good idea how to plan a route. Keep in mind that a particular island won't necessarily be accessible from wherever you are, and fewer ferries are in service in November than are earlier in the year between May and September.

All the inhabited islands have regular ferry service throughout the year (islanders depend on them), but ferry timetables are accurate only up to a couple of months in advance. This is because many ferry routes are government subsidized and ferry companies must wait for their schedules to be approved.
During winter, including November, ferry routes are designed to connect islands with the mainland, and to connect smaller islands with local hubs. Highspeed and flying cat class ferries are laid up for the winter, and tourist routes, e.g. Mykonos>Santorini, discontinued until spring.
You will have no problem finding ferries in November if you stick to the main routes. A good reference for the Greek ferry system is Thomas Cook's Greek Island Hopping.
