Good Morning America: Tracking the DaVinci Code
Whether or not you are a fan of the DaVinci Code, you might be interested in watching Good Morning America next week. The anchors will be investigating clues in several different European cities. If nothing else, the scenery will probably be nice to look at.

Kayb95, Thanks for the tip. I am fond of the DaVinci Code being raised in the Catholic church (not active now, womens rights long story!) However I am a BIG fan of Diane Sawyer I think she is one of the smartest female journalist around. I will be sure to watch for that and the scenery since we will be there next month.

Last year everyone was reading this book and/or Dan Brown's other hot title, Angels & Demons .... DaVinci Code continues to be a hot seller .... wonder if Good Morning America's focus on DaVince Code is a "tie-in" to the movies's release. Assume the movie version should be coming out soon? Although I'm didn't envision Tom Hanks as the title character, probably will go see the movie when it is released.

It's my understanding that the movie has been cast, but director Ron Howard hasn't filmed any of it as yet. Agree Tom Hanks is very poor choice to play lead. He's a good actor and I do like him, but this part IMO is out of character for him.

Let's see...Tom Hanks can play a nine-year old boy trapped in a grownup body, a FedEx manager stranded on a desert island, an Army captain shepherding a squad through occupied France, a dying gay lawyer, a mob hit man, an Eastern European man stranded in an airport...the list goes on.
But he can't play this guy? I don't get it.
Tom Hanks isn't a "type." He's a consummate actor whose identity vanishes into the character. He could play an ice cream cone and you'd believe it.

I agree that Tom Hanks is a very talented actor. But, I agree with many (on and off this board) that he doesn't matches my image of the character.
1) That's the beauty of reading - we visualize as we read.
2) He may prove me (us) wrong.

I just read Da Vinci code for the first time, and I knew that Tom Hanks was cast in the movie role before I began to read it. As I read, I envisioned him quite easily in the role. As my imagination flowed so smoothly with him as Langdon, it just seems a natural for me. I will have a difficult time with anyone else at this point!

Well, Tom Hanks or no Tom Hanks, we can be sure of one thing - the movie can hardly be worse than the book.
Russell Crowe - everyone has their price, maybe, but I don't think so. To give him his due, so far he's been very selective about the parts he takes on.

Face facts (even if there aren't many in the DaVinci Code) even without any of the "purists" here not going to see the movie, it will make lots of money and probably entertain millions of people.

Don't think the term "purist" and "da Vinci Code" are compatible, but It's going to be a "Hollywood" movie in any case, so why not Tom Hanks? I trust Ron Howard as a director more than many, and after all, "Life is like a box of chocolates...."!
If the measure of a good actor is believability in a wide range of roles, Tom Hanks is way up there on my list!
