Good Guide book for England's Peak District
Does anyone have a guide book they particularly liked when visiting the Peaks.
We will be there 4 days and nights so it is worth to us to get something with depth.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Tuscan,
the Peak district is a bit small to have many guides devoted just to it; I thought about Cadogan but they apparently don;t cover it.
I did find the local tourist board guide:
http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk
i also found this extract from the Insight guide to England:
https://www.insightguides.com/destin...trict/overview
finally, if you've got a kindle, this might be good:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Derbyshire-P...SZS65AD0ZR6472
otherwise it looks as if you'll need a guide book to England that's got a large section on the Peaks.

Hi Debbie,
I spent 4 nights in the Peak district last fall. I also looked for a guide book but didn't have any luck finding an in depth coverage.
I stayed in Buxton. While I really liked my b&b (Roseleigh Guest House) I think I would have preferred to stay in Bakewell. It seemed to have more restaurants, and was a pleasant area to stroll. There is a river that runs through town with some paths near it.
I had decided to visit the area because I had always wanted to visit Chatsworth. It lived up to expectations. It's easy to spend a whole day here going through the house and the grounds. I ate at the cafe which was decent, if a little overpriced.

I also visited Haddon Hall which has lovely gardens.

I had hoped to combine a walk on the Monsal trail with a visit to Thornbridge hall, but its only open one day a week, and that day there was torrential rain.

I really enjoyed the Peak district. I didn't see as many American tourists there & had some nice chats with people at cafes & on the local buses. I had been in France before this where the temperature was in the 90's. In the peak district I had mostly nice days but a couple were very cold (people were wearing coats and gloves) and rainy. This was early July.

Thanks everyone for all the links.
sofarsogood, I just order the Bradt guide on half.com.
I have several England guides but I did want one with details.
annhig, I will download that eating guide to my Kindle.
Jennifer, we are staying in the countryside but not far from Buxton. Flagg is the village, but it's tiny.
We don't mind driving to have dinner, because we don't drink, so it should be OK.
